Software Development Manager

Uptake is an Agile software development shop. You'll lead a talented and nimble team of engineers to deliver incredible user experiences and predictive functionality for our platform. Responsibilities include direct management of a 5+ technical team, process and quality of service improvements, strategic planning, project management for software within the team, and management of resources across teams. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, manage a diverse set of personalities, and have a consistent track record of delivery.
This position will be working with a mix of systems and technologies with an emphasis on new-build web application and platform development. We utilize a mix of development frameworks/tools (Java, Spring, Angular.js) as well as leveraging the latest in cloud platform technologies via Amazon Web Services.
Responsibilities
- Manage a development team including HR-related duties, performance management, and interpersonal communication
- Work with product management and senior technical staff to deliver commitments on-time in a quality-driven manner
- Coordinate development projects with other teams and development managers
- Work closely with architects and senior technical leadership to ensure that best practices and strategic goals are incorporated into development work
- Make sure that the development team's personal and professional development goals are being met and help develop growth opportunities and events across the wider organization
- Give regular reports to senior management about progress, roadblocks, and opportunities
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset
- Bachelors degree in a computer science-related field
- 3+ years management experience
- Strong experience managing Agile scrum teams
- Familiarity with test-driven development and quality assurance best practices
- Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and motivational skills
- Experience managing personnel including one-on-one's, annual reviews, and goal setting
- Cover letter strongly preferred; please include examples of interesting projects you have managed or worked on in the past, your analytic experience, and/or your technical aptitude
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with technical and non-technical personnel spanning from analysts through the leadership ranks
- Knowledge of REST API principles and how to integrate REST API's with the ETL process
- Experience with analytical tools, databases, and methodologies
