Shiftgig, one of Chicago’s hottest and fastest growing technology companies, is actively seeking a Software Engineer, Data Platform in our Chicago office. We are a tech company in a non-tech space and as such, we have a lot of interesting problems to solve. We solve many of these using the large and diverse data set we have, as such you will be a key member of our team.
About you:
- You understand the value of a well-manicured enterprise data set
- You know how to balance pragmatic, iterative development with the long term vision of a scalable and usable data warehouse
- You are able to navigate human process as well as take ownership over data processes
- You are as much team-oriented as solution-oriented
- You have a knack for helping people find the right way to leverage large data sets for different sources
- Enjoy working with data science, business analysts and engineering teams in concert
- Have a consultative outlook, and be willing to teach as well as learn
- You’re excited about researching and implementing technologies you’ve never implemented before
- You have a love of software engineering and building technology to help people in their daily lives. The social aspect of our business is very important to our team.
- 5+ years owning aspects of a data warehouse
- Past experience in building high-quality software with an understanding of coding patterns, practices, and testing
- Demonstrated experience in modeling and architecting scalable software systems
- Understand big data platforms, warehouses, relational, NoSQL and non-relational stores, and understand when best to use each of them
- Experience in using data technologies, such as:
- Redshift
- Hadoop
- Spark
- Kafka
- Glue
- RDS
- Organize macro level processes and systems
- Have experience building non-trivial ETL solutions that scale, extracting data from operational product and business systems
- Delivered business intelligence capabilities via tools like Domo/Tableau
- Proven ability to take business needs and deliver data informed solutions
- Experience with Agile development processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
