This role will act as a part of the Grubhub Mission Control team. Mission Control owns the systems, tools, and processes for incident-management at Grubhub. In this role, you will work across the entire Engineering organization to tie common incidents together and push teams towards resolution. You will drive solutions involving the complete incident lifecycle, including Pre-Prevention, Detection, Coordination, Mitigation/Closure, Postmortems, and Post-Prevention.
The Impact You Will Make
- Assist in providing a holistic approach to system monitoring (contrasted with specialized dev teams) in order to uncover potential problems that would not be caught by a single team.
- Coordinate activities during outages, supporting the Site Reliability Engineers and Software Engineers, and managing incident communications.
- Assist in maintaining tools that help us respond to and analyze incidents.
- Communicate technical concepts/updates to multiple parties, including Executives, Engineers, and potentially non-technical teams.
- Assist in organizing follow-up steps after incidents are resolved, driving the creation of action-items for dev teams and ensuring their completion.
- Recognize incidents that may have security implications and escalate them to the appropriate team (i.e security team) as needed
What You Bring To The Table
- A good general "all-rounder" tech skill set, with the ability to understand multiple systems from a high-level perspective.
- Basic knowledge of web technologies.
- Basic understanding of Linux Operating System.
- Basic understanding of scripting languages such as bash or python.
- Basic understanding of cloud networking and computing concepts.
- An ability to multitask, be process-minded, and detail-oriented.
- Passion for platform uptime and security.
- Excellent time-management, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with APIs from various observability tools such as Datadog, New Relic, PagerDuty is a plus.
- Familiarity with SQL, Cassandra, or other database skills are a plus.
