As a Systems Engineer, you will help build, manage, and maintain, kCura’s internal back office, development, and testing environments. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of enterprise engineering experience building infrastructure with Microsoft Hyper-V as the backbone.
You will help drive us forward with our virtualization and cloud initiatives and keep kCura up-to-date as industry-changing technologies arise. Your role will ultimately support our expanding user base and technical requirements as our software platform grows.
Responsibilities
- Help design, deploy, and maintain our production Hyper-V environment
- Transfer workload from VMware to Hyper-V
- Assist in moving existing private cloud workloads to public clouds
- Assist in strategic direction and planning for growth to support our increasing business needs
- Architect, deploy, and support unique technology solutions based on ever-changing business requirements
- Educate users and implement new hardware and software solutions
- Keep on top of industry trends and virtualization technology
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Hyper-V – Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining Hyper-V infrastructure
- Cloud Services – Experience with MS Azure, Amazon Web Services, or other cloud offerings
- Automation – Powershell and Chef experience to help with automating repeatable tasks
- Storage – General knowledge of iSCSI vs Fiber Channel, NAS, SAN, DAS, local
- Networking – General networking knowledge, VLANs, routing, VMware based switching, and firewall concepts
- Software – Microsoft Active Directory, Internet Information Services, MS SQL, and typical back-office product knowledge
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor when things are going wrong in order to troubleshoot issues effectively
- A big picture mentality around solutions architecture and a Keep It Simple philosophy
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of public cloud based offerings such as MS Azure or AWS
- Hyper-V experience designing and deploying clusters from the ground up, with knowledge and experience deploying and provisioning storage and networking
- Storage knowledge – Dell Compellent and Tintri a strong plus
- Microsoft or VMware certification a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate difficult technical concepts in a straight-forward, simple, manner
- Experience with Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012, Internet Information Services, and Terminal Services
