In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with our Lead Product Designer, assisting in all aspects of product UX and UI for internal- and external-facing apps and tools. These include developing personas and user stories, designing flow diagrams and wireframes, building interactive prototypes, and conducting usability testing. You will be placed on app- and feature-specific Scrum teams with developers and QA engineers, and will be responsible for leading the team’s development from a user-focused perspective. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the UX/UI of new features adheres to our style guide and creates cohesion across our apps and platform. You will be reporting to our Lead Product Designer.

We’re fun to work with (at least we tend to think so), so you should be too — we value our community here as much as any other aspect of the company. We’re looking for someone with a great sense of aesthetic, an intuitive understanding of how to make complex ideas accessible and complicated workflows tractable, an ability to articulate and stand up for their ideas (while also being open and amenable to feedback), and an eye for detail. You will be joining a nascent Product Design team with a lot of amazing work ahead of us, so you should be a self-starter as well as someone deeply invested in and excited about the mission of Narrative Science.

Responsibilities include:

• Creating world-class, user-centered designs through consideration of market research, business requirements, customer feedback, and usability study findings

• Translating business requirements into use cases and high-level customer experience requirements

• Developing conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes (either by coding or with tools like Axure, Balsamiq, etc) to communicate your ideas and test with users

• Designing the UI elements of applications and features

• Helping maintain detailed user-interface specifications

• Adapting as necessary -- We have a series of ongoing, long-term initiatives that require UX/UI attention. Given the size of the team you’d be joining, you should expect to have a few balls in the air at once.

Requirements:

• 2 to 5+ years of real-world UX/UI design experience for web or desktop applications

• Experience with wireframing/prototyping tools (Axure, Balsamiq, or equivalent)

• Experience with Sketch/Illustrator and/or Photoshop (or equivalent)

• Experience with user interface design patterns and methodologies

• Experience with user testing and related methodologies/tools

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice-to-haves:

• A degree (bachelors or masters) in a related field (but we’re open to the right candidate without it)

• Experience with designing enterprise application/platform tools

• Experience with designing BI/Data Management tools

• Experience with HTML/CSS/JS

• Experience with the Scrum process

Please submit a cover letter, resume and portfolio or samples of work.
