Design at Emmi

The experience design practice at Emmi Solutions is an interdisciplinary team responsible for stewarding a human-centered, design-led approach to delivering value to our customers through software and interactive experiences. In partnership with product management, designers collaborate with illustrators, writers, medical experts, business analysts and developers to shape the powerful experiences Emmi is known for. Our emergent practice needs unique designers capable of growing our design discipline, while marrying business and user needs to continuously improve and create new value for customers.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a visual interface designer to join our expanding team of interaction designers, voice user interface designers and of course—visual interface designers. You will be responsible for the aesthetic qualities of interface elements that facilitate user – application interactions and captures the emotive ethos of the experience. You will curate visual design language across products, platforms and devices. We’ll also rely on you to apply your expertise across the entire design process and work to continuously refine our human-centered approach to design.

Responsibilities

- Craft the appearance of interface elements that effectively facilitate desired user behavior.
- Play a leading role developing a cohesive, cross-product appearance model and visual language.
- Develop and refine interface style guidelines, patterns and supporting graphic standards.
- Base decisions on design principles and research findings; effectively communicate rationale with others.
- Participate in design research using a variety of methods (e.g. participatory design, ethnographies, usefulness studies and usability).
- Clearly document, synthesize and communicate research findings.
- Collaborate with development to implement design.
- Contribute to the evolution of Emmi’s human-centered design discipline.

Requirements

- Your design approach begins and ends with people; you lead with empathy.
- You can articulate the value and process of human-centered design.
- Demonstrative ability to uncover unique insight within complexity, identify meaningful patterns and synthesize emergent themes into valuable solutions.
- Formidable experience concepting and executing unified visual interfaces across multiple products, channels, platforms and devices.
- A clear mastery of visual design principles, their psychological underpinnings and experience applying principles of persuasive technology and behavior change to visual design.
- An understanding of design and technology trends and a strategic perspective on how they apply to innovation and product development.
- Experience in healthcare is not required, but is a plus.
- Ability to articulate why you’re uniquely qualified for this position.

Qualifications

Education
- Bachelor’s degree. Advanced education in visual communication or HCI is a plus.

Experience
- 5 years of experience in visual/graphic design.
- At least 2 years of experience designing successful visual interfaces.

Portfolio
- Examples of beautiful and compelling visual interface designs that demonstrates a balance between common affordance and novel approaches. To be considered, your application must include a pdf attachment or link to your portfolio.

Technical
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite. 
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Front-end development experience a plus.
- Familiarity with Axure is a plus.
- Understanding of adaptive and responsive design.
- Experience working in an agile environment is a plus.
