Who you are:
An experienced, driven, and reliable professional interested in building and scaling the accounting department and processes of an early-stage, high-growth technology software company. You will report directly to the CFO and work closely with other leaders of the company. You will have the responsibility of managing and growing the Finance team, latitude to establish best practices and guide the accounting framework, starting with taking over and enhancing the accounting operations in alignment with US GAAP. You are a self-starter with proven accounting knowledge and ability to meet deadlines. This is a great opportunity to come in at a key time of growth and make a huge impact.
Role description:

  • Managing, hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting team
  • Managing all accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and general accounting departments
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Providing monthly, quarterly and year-end financial results and variance analyses
  • Managing the annual audit
  • Coordinating the budget process with the CFO
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Preparing information and reports for the board of directors
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with US GAAP


Company Specific Technology:

  • QuickBooks other financial software
  • Gusto and other payroll systems


Key Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related Business field
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP including revenue recognition
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and prioritization skills; interested in identifying and fixing problems
  • Excellent teamwork, including the ability to interact with all organization levels.
  • Professionalism & the ability to exercise good judgment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA
  • 10+ years of public accounting experience
  • Full financial close cycle experience
  • Quickbooks experience
  • Managed annual audits

Travel Requirements: 10-20% for normal business needs
Environmental Conditions
Work Environment - Normal office environment and/or home office workspace.
Strength Guidelines - Employee will be expected to lift, move and carry 10-15 lbs in the normal scope of work.
Motion Parameters - Employee will be expected to sit for long periods of time with the option to stand or walk (stretch). Employee may need to bend or squat when picking up items from the floor. Employee must have ability to type on a computer keyboard.
Vision and Hearing Requirements - Employee must be able to see a computer screen, read internal and external reports and summaries. There is a normal amount of background noise in the office environment. Employee must be able to see and hear video conferencing tools.
Emotional Demands - Employee must be able to understand, react and respond to quick decisions, must be able to read and write with a high level of grammar skill including the ability to read, understand and interpret technical information and data. On occasion, employee may have to speak publicly in company meetings and/or company-led presentations, training and seminars.
Information Security Responsibilities

  • Employee must follow all applicable policies in the Information Security Handbook, Master Information Security Policy and sub-policies, standards and procedures which are generally available to employee.
  • Employee must maintain security of login credentials and information assets, and follow Data Classification policy regarding labeling and handling of Company data.
  • Employee must report any security incidents pursuant to the Incident Response policy
  • Employee must support information risk assessments, internal and external information security audit functions
  • Employee must complete security training during on-boarding process as well as annually when arranged by the Company; and, maintain any certifications as required

Our headquarters are located in the Chicago Loop, standing at the foot of the busy LaSalle Street canyon. Our office is located in an art deco-style skyscraper with a pinnacle statue of Ceres, Chicago's tallest building from 1930 to 1965. Easy access to great restaurants and rooftop views!
