Overview of Job Description:
We are seeking an Infrastructure Administrator who would join our team to enable solutions which keep Grainger working while providing great customer experience and the means to stay ahead of the competition.
As a Software System Administrator, a successful candidate will be deploying, configuring, and managing applications at Grainger. We have several mission critical third-party applications that support Grainger's overall operations including warehouse management, audit, accounts payable & receivable, cash processing, credit card tokenization, address validation, branch and DC (DISTRIBUTION CENTER) printing, asset management, license management to name a few. We keep applications running with the goal of providing our business partners with stable applications all while working toward continuous improvement and automation.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides advanced Level II system administration support for various applications including installation, maintenance
- Triage, coordinate or escalate a variety of support issues while assisting in identification of root cause
- Work with Frontline Operations and the Command Center to resolve escalated issues and ensure appropriate documentation is in place to enable first call resolution
- Develops robust monitoring to ensure application and infrastructure is in good health (e.g., Disk usage, CPU/Memory usage, Performance, etc.)
- Ensure operational adherence to key standards and repeatable processes such as Change, Problem, Incident and Request Management.
- Assists in the designs & development of solutions and automation.
- Provides outstanding customer service while indirectly leading the team
- Facilitate resolution of complicated issues for various technical disciplines.
- Provide guidance by prioritizing, analyzing, and tracking recommended process improvements to increase our efficiency
- Provide 24x7 support on a rotational basis for off hour support needs
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline experience
- 1+ year experience in automating solutions to remove repetitive problems/tasks
- Proficient with various UNIX / Linux shell scripting (e.g., sh/ksh/bash/csh/tcsh) and other scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, etc.
- Experience with Windows & Linux Server Administration, to include services, and technologies (Active Directory, LDAP, DHCP, DNS (Domain Name System), IIS) experience
- Understanding of Relational Databases, including Oracle and MS SQL Server.
- Knowledge of network and understanding of TCP/IP
- Understanding of windows security and users/groups management.
- Understanding of monitoring tools and monitoring strategies to monitor and alert on applications using Splunk and Zenoss tools.
- Curiosity to understand how things work from the ground up, seek different points of view, find better ways to solve problems while embracing the continuous improvement notion
- Experience in high pressure situations which require quick response and resolution to production problems.
- Experience coordinating events and issues between multiple teams
- Experience balancing multiple priorities while delivering assignments on time and within budget in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in building relationships, working with, and communicating with all levels of the Organization
- Expert analytical skills and ability to provide direction across teams
- Passion for research, evaluate, and test new IT (Information Technology) technologies, trends, and solutions.
