Editor & Manager, Content Development
At Sprout Social, content is core to how we reach new audiences, build an exceptional brand and drive revenue. We're looking for a Manager, Content Development who will lead and enhance the production of that content for Sprout's global audience and more than 30,000 customers.
This individual will lead a team of writers and creators to develop content that positions Sprout as the leader in social business. This person will manage content production for a high-volume written content calendar and shape our approach to multimedia content development. They will coach and mentor their team members and help them explore career paths in content and at Sprout. They'll be an integral part of how the Content Team grows and adapts as Sprout's business, audience and marketing strategy evolve.
Our ideal candidate understands the impact that content can have on an organization, and it's their mission to elevate exceptional storytelling. They've created and led the development of a wide variety of content pieces, and they have deep experience managing assignments, timelines, developmental editing and feedback conversations with in-house and external writers. This person is comfortable working with a variety of internal teams, including content strategy and creative partners, to ensure content hits and exceeds the mark.

Qualifications
These are the minimum qualifications that our hiring team is looking for in this role:
- A minimum of 5 years of overall marketing experience
- Experience managing assignments and projects for a team of content creators
- Experience managing in-house team members including responsibility for career pathing and development, as well as experience hiring and managing freelance writers
Additionally, these are the preferred qualifications that would indicate a particularly strong candidate:
- Experience working in B2B/SaaS
- Experience managing social media
- Familiarity with AP Style
Within 1 month, you will:
- Attend Sprout Social new hire training to learn about our company, culture and products and understand the value we deliver to customers
- Partner with the Director of Content to set initial priorities and goals
- Join Content Team and Marketing trainings to get to know our team and understand content initiatives and strategies
- Meet with key partners on the Content & Comms, Marketing and Brand Creative teams to learn about the scope of their work and content collaborations
- Develop a firm understanding of Sprout's brand positioning and writing guidelines
- Familiarize yourself with Sprout's editorial calendar as well as past articles, data reports, guides, tools, videos, etc.
Within 3 months, you will:
- Have a strong understanding of Sprout's content strategy and the role of content in accomplishing our business goals and objectives
- Edit and provide feedback to team members and freelancers, working with them to improve writing and grow as content creators
- Partner with the Manager, Content Strategy & Operations to develop a collaborative, efficient process for how you'll take content from brief to published piece
- Begin to assign and manage all of your team's content, seeking cross-functional inputs and efficiencies along the way, and using project management and content tools like Jira, Wordpress and Smartsheet
- Lead the ongoing development of an educational video series, partnering with Customer Marketing, Brand Creative and external agencies/contractors
- Regularly meet with each of your direct reports for 1:1s and career development conversations that cover projects, growth opportunities and career aspirations
- Pinch hit when the team needs extra writing support, and write content of your own if needed
- Continue to build connections with other team members through active networking and community building
Within 6 months, you will:
- Explore how we might expand our content to new formats and approaches, which may include podcasts, shows, and more
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement new initiatives and see a high-impact project through from start to finish
- Share recommendations for how content can make a stronger impact, areas to build our content capabilities or new approaches to explore
- Be comfortable and proactive about working with our team and key partners to share feedback, push the creativity and performance of our content, and bring new ideas to life
Within 12 months, you will:
- Develop a strong understanding of Sprout's customer segments and product and provide recommendations for how we can grow
- Surprise us! Use your unique ideas and abilities to change your team in beneficial ways that we haven't even considered yet.
Of course what is outlined above is the ideal timeline, but projects and tasks may shift based on business needs and at the discretion of your manager.
