Overview

The Pioneer Press papers are seeking a full-time general assignment reporter to cover geographic beats. This energetic reporter should be comfortable doing everything from covering breaking news to attending city council meetings in the towns they cover. Our reporters also seek out opportunities for investigative or project stories in their areas. This reporter will develop sources and write must-read stories, making themselves an authority on the areas they cover.

 

Responsibilities

Report breaking news as it happens -- quickly, fairly and accurately.

Work a beat and create a source network that helps the Pioneer Press find the best stories — and find them first.

Pitch and develop enterprise stories that readers can’t find anywhere else.
 

Uncover project and investigative stories, then follow through on reporting and writing the longer-term pieces.

Attend and report on meetings for municipalities in the coverage area,  combing through agendas to find the most useful stories for readers, and telling those stories in a way that resonates with our audience.
 

Work with visual and digital journalists to tell stories in a variety of media.

 

Qualifications

One-three years of reporting experience at a daily news organization
Excellent writing skills and the ability to tell a story
Excellent news judgment and understanding of journalistic ethics
A passion for local news
