Summary

The Search Engine Marketing Strategist is responsible for developing and executing thoughtful search marketing strategies-both organic and paid-that are designed to achieve our business units' desired marketing outcomes. The successful candidate will also be experienced in collecting and analyzing relevant business data to optimize campaigns and report on their effectiveness to our business unit marketing stakeholders and other team members. In addition, this role is responsible for managing taxonomy and tagging strategy to support public digital marketing channels including web, social, advertising and mobile.

Major Duties

  1. With a keen attention to detail and passion for the brand, applies subject matter expertise in paid and organic search.
    • Paid Search Campaigns-plan, create and manage high-performing paid search campaigns that will produce desired results upon launch and consistently improve over time
    • Content Marketing-work closely with content authors in corporate marketing as well as our business unit marketing teams to assist them in planning and creating content marketing deliverables that will perform well in search engines.
  2. Monitor SEO/SEM, marketing and performance metrics to report back to stakeholders
  3. Regularly meet with business unit marketers to understand their priorities, provide consulting and proactively recommend new campaigns
  4. Lead the strategy of the PPC program in collaboration with corporate marketing and business unit marketers. Provide consultation to business partners and directs corporate agency to optimize paid search campaigns using a data-driven approach to grow awareness, engagement and conversions on public websites. Maintain taxonomy and tagging strategy for use on public channels.
  5. Develop and maintain editorial calendar for northerntrust.com. Provides digital content consulting to business units. Uses Adobe Experience Manager to create and maintain content.
  6. Produce content for digital-first presentation in web, mobile and social channels.
  7. Bring leading edge thinking and processes to the Digital COE work to push our presentation of content in new directions.
  8. In collaboration with technical team, leads monthly release work on northerntrust.com from enhancement identification and prioritization through testing and delivery. Ability to effectively communicate, simplify and relay requirements to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  9. Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impact.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrable experience with SEO/SEM and CRM software
  • Experience implementing and optimizing Google Adwords campaigns
  • Solid knowledge of web analytics tools like Google Analytics
  • Hands-on experience with online marketing tools and practices
  • Familiarity with web design and HTML
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to advise others on best practices
  • Works with an open and optimistic mindset of experimentation, intellectual curiosity and rapid prototyping using agile methodology for large projects.
  • Collaborates in a cross-functional team to create compelling content that meets marketing objectives in a measurable fashion. Knowledge of running multi-variant tests and personalized content based on data
  • In-depth functional / industry knowledge is required
  • Highly flexible and adaptable, embraces ambiguity and responds positively to change
  • Uses collaborative/communication tools effectively e.g. Slack, G Suite, Skype, Outlook
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality of work

Experience Required

A College or University degree and/or experience within an agency, in-house design or marketing team, as a contractor, or in a relevant design role is required. Experience with Adobe Experience Manager, CrownPeak and SEMRush is required.
