Northern Trust is looking for a Compliance Regulatory Consultant to provide guidance and program management regarding Federal Reserve membership requirements. This will include bank holding company and international banking operations, amongst other regulations and/or regulatory guidance. This position is responsible for advising business partners and regulated entity compliance officers, including senior management, on compliance programs and applicable laws, regulations, rules and standards, including any developments or changes that may affect their area. The individual in this role will perform control design review, execute monitoring, develop training, and complete risk assessments to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. A successful candidate for this position will have direct experience functioning in an advisory capacity.

  • Advise business partners and regulated entity compliance officers, including senior management, on Compliance programs and applicable laws, regulations, rules and standards, including keeping them informed of developments or changes that may affect their area.
  • Confirm that requirements for respective area(s) of coverage are incorporated in rule maps and risk assessments (as applicable). Work with regulated entity compliance officers and Business Unit managers to confirm that controls and monitoring techniques are in place for compliance with requirements for respective area(s) of coverage.
  • Participates in establishing written guidance on the appropriate implementation of Compliance programs and laws, regulations, rules and standards, through policies and procedures and other documents, such as Compliance manuals, internal codes of conduct and practice guidelines.
  • Identifies situations which may pose significant Compliance risk and guides management in developing policies and/or procedures that minimize risk.
  • Interacts with business partners, regulators, and internal and external auditors on regulatory topics

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5-7 or more years' experience, preferably in Compliance or risk management; or equivalent related experience. CRCM preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, acquired through formal education and work experience, is required.
  • Analytical and communication skills are necessary to consult with and communicate information to partners/clients; to analyze and summarize information; and to apply laws and regulations to the Company's business.
  • Ability to learn new subject areas quickly and competently
  • Must be able to jump from task to task and move several different projects along
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish credibility and foster excellent working relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders
  • Comfortable with taking the initiative but also capable of recognizing complex problems and comfortable bringing questions to management
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in project management or comfortable with using project management ideas
