What You'll Do

As a Weather Specialist on the Data Science team, you’ll collaborate across teams to build Uptake’s suite of cutting-edge weather tools. The tools you create will help to generate weather analytics to be used by our partners across multiple industries. The ideal candidate has a background in statistical analysis and meteorology.
 
Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to build Uptake’s suite of cutting-edge weather tools
  • Generate weather analytics research to tackle industry problems
  • Write codes/scripts to build and visualize atmospheric datasets
  • Build and test remote-sensing retrievals
  • Implement machine learning algorithms

With slightly less frequency, the individual may

  • Work with software developers and implementation engineers to specify operational implementation of databases, retrievals, and algorithms.
  • Perform web scraping
  • Write technical reports
  • Participate in job-related training events
Qualifications
  • Required:
  • Experience with signal processing and geospatial analysis using weather satellites and/or radar meteorology
  • Knowledge of Python and shell scripting
  • Experience working with large meteorological datasets
  • Ability to frame problems, learn quickly, and execute independently
  • Solid communication skills
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Graduate degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or related field
  • Preferred:
    • Experience contributing to open source software
    • Familiarity with any or all of the following techniques:
      • Optical flow
      • Lasso and Ridge regularization
      • Ensemble methods
      • Time series analysis
      • Bayesian inference
      • Gaussian process
      • Demonstrated project experience as shown on Github or a personal website

    We are located in River North just right off the Chicago Brown Line stop. We also provide you with a free shuttle service to/from Ogilvie and Union.
