ThinkMarkets has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Database Engineer to join our Chicago office. This position will be responsible for working with the customer to define requirements, analyze business and technical processes in order to design application functionality that will be accessible by internal customers from various branches across the globe.  The candidate must be a self-starter and work well with others and must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and effectively communicate with all stakeholders.  This successful candidate will apply extensive technical expertise and have deep knowledge of databases and data warehousing and develop technical solutions to complex problems which require regular use of ingenuity and creativity. 

 

Responsibilities:

Data Warehousing

  • Define standards and frameworks for data architecture design.
  • Formulate event modelling; conceptual, logical, and physical data warehouse design; data warehouse optimization and performance; load strategy design and implementation; change management.
  • Perform data profiling and analysis to assess data quality patterns, recommend data cleansing rules – conforming data standard rules and matching algorithms.
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary.
  • Implement and enforce database security based upon best practice, industry regulations, and company policies.
  • Deliver data to end user in appropriate requested formats, such as spreadsheets, SSRS Reports, Tableau dashboards and reports, etc.

MS SQL Responsibilities

  • Provide SQL coding focused database development assistance to the Application Developers.
  • Perform SQL Migrations to new Servers and configure and setup BI tools (SSRS, SSIS etc.)
  • Work with System/Network Administrators to develop and maintain the replication, backup, and restoration of data within the system.
  • Develop custom queries and reports for data modelling through various tool sets to aggregate, analyze, and report results.
  • Maintain clustered, highly redundant database environments.

MySQL Responsibilities

  • 4-6 years experience working with MySQL
  • Develop, implement, and maintain MySQL database structures in test, quality assurance, and production environments utilizing current standards policies and procedures.
  • Provide performance-related support and systems related support for MySQL data structures in production, test, development, and QA environments utilizing current tool sets.
  • Maintain existing MySQL environments, including replication environments and High Availability environments.
  • Manage backup/recovery for MySQL instances and provide Disaster Recovery (DR) support.
  • Implement and enforce database security based upon best practice, industry regulations, and company policies.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Certification in MCSE: Data Management and Analytics preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in SQL, Database Development; experience in Financial Services is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 -3 years experience working with cloud integration (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience and advanced knowledge of security and management of databases.
  • Experience with deploying databases on a global scale.
  • Experience working with Real-Time/Time Series databases.
  • Experience with database administration and design of enterprise database systems. (Influx DB and Redis-AWS)
  • Experience managing users accounts privileges, access, and permissions.
  • Experience with conflict management and identity parameters in replicated environments.
  • Experience with utilizing database performance analysis tools: SolarWinds or Redgate.
  • Experience with BI and Tableau is a plus.
