The Director, Consumer Insights is a strategic position responsible for providing best-in-class insights to lead the Stop & Shop organization. The position interacts closely with Senior Leaders within Stop & Shop to understand their ongoing needs, challenges and opportunities and proactively recommends research and provides insights to inform decision-making. The Insights Lead is responsible for developing top quality research, both qualitative and quantitative, and grooming a research team to meet the needs across the organization and its key functions. Insights are well-rounded and include multiple data sources, both internal and external, such as Sales data, Household Card data, Nielsen Market Share, IRI data, and CX and Brand Health Tracking as well as ad hoc research.

- Highly visible, confident and personable leader who interacts with all levels of the organization and is able to clearly and dynamically bring the shopper voice into conversations to influence decision-making
- Has a clear understanding of the business, its opportunities and challenges and can create customer-centric recommendations to drive the business forward
- Develops/Identifies and conducts state-of-the-art consumer research, both qualitative and quantitative.
- Utilizes multiple data sources to create truly insightful guidance to the company, including but not limited to sales data, shopper card data, Nielsen and IRI data, secondary and trends syndicated insights, tracking data and adhoc research studies.
- Provides insights and guidance in the development of the company’s 3-year strategic plan for growing the business.
- Responding quickly with accurate information with increasingly complex market/competitive conditions.
- Reporting action-oriented results that are understandable by a diverse constituency.
- Maintaining objectivity in the search for ""truth"" especially when it runs counter to popular opinion
- Manage third-party research partnerships and negotiate costs for foundational and ad hoc research programs
- Establishing productive working relationships with Senior Leadership, and each brand’s Marketing, Operations and Merchandising functions.
- Responsible for managing assigned staff. Responsible for hiring, training, and developing associates. Manages performance through performance planning, coaching, appraisal and disciplinary efforts. Communicates company and departmental policies to associates.
The Essentials In Your Cart - The required ingredients
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Marketing Research, Psychology, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years in marketing/sales/merchandising and market research ideally at a market research, packaged goods or retail firm.
Extra Spices - What you should bring to the table
- Deep understanding of the range of Qualitative and Quantitative research methodologies and analysis and where to effectively apply (examples: focus groups, 1 on 1’s, ideations, tracking studies, concept testing, advertising testing, TURF analysis, Regression analysis, facial coding, eye tracking, AI, etc.)
- In-store and shopper path to purchase research experience
- Online UX, digital rewards programs, social media scraping, geo tracking experience
- Understanding of Market Share, Sales, and Household data
- Usage/Awareness of Key trend providers and syndicated research companies
- Prefer experience with Qualtrics, Power BI, and other data portals and warehouses
- Consumer research panel management and usage
- Executive presence and comfort interacting and influencing at the highest levels of the organization
