Onsite Search Analyst
Grainger is a broad line, business-to-business distributor of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies and other related products and services. More than 3.2 million businesses and institutions worldwide rely on Grainger for products such as safety gloves, ladders, motors and janitorial supplies, along with services like inventory management and technical support. These customers represent a broad collection of industries including commercial, government, healthcare and manufacturing. They place orders online, on mobile devices, through sales representatives, over the phone and at local branches. Approximately 5,000 suppliers provide Grainger with more than 1.6 million products stocked in Grainger’s distribution centers and branches worldwide.
Primary Function:
Executes strategies and tactics to optimize the onsite search experience. The role includes direct management of search optimization tools, processes, and reporting.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in strategic planning to improve the grainger.com product search experience
- Analyze grainger.com onsite search activity; identify and execute opportunities for improvement
- Manage internal tools and business processes that optimize the onsite search experience
- Collect and respond to internal and external onsite search feedback; execute and measure search improvement tactics
- Establish and implement search term standards, guidelines, and best practices in order to optimize the onsite keyword search accuracy
- Develop search measurement plans and dashboards; monitor and report on onsite search metrics and KPIs
- Benchmark the grainger.com onsite search experience versus its competitors
- Provide support for efforts managed by Digital Product Managers as needed
Preferred Education and Experience:
Must have 3-5 years of experience in large data-focused organizations with complex business processes and systems. Additional requirements include:
- An inquisitive nature and a passion for research – with an emphasis on industrial products
- Experience with faceted online search engines; Endeca and/or Solr preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in data analysis and analytical thinking, coupled with the ability to translate data insights into tactical execution. Experience with web analytics packages (Adobe) preferred
- Understanding of Product Information Management systems and methodologies
- Strong detail orientation
- Proven systemic thinking skills
- Proven ability to work with complex data sets
- Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to translate detailed technical information into easily understood concepts, decisions, and actions
- The ability to work on multiple projects and strategic initiatives at once, consistently prioritizing and executing on the most impactful work first
