Job Description

An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability are at the feature level.

We are looking for a Software Engineer 2 to join our Price Platform team that build solutions to support data driven decisions on pricing to drive up profitability and provide our customer with the best shopping experiences. To succeed in this position, you should have strong analytical skills and the ability to combine data from different sources. Your responsibilities include analyzing raw data, developing and maintaining datasets and improving data quality and efficiency.

A day in the life…

• Design and collaborate with local and partner teams
• Build, own and automate data pipelines to efficiently access data from multiple data sources
• Test all scenarios and conform to quality standards
• Provide assistance to the team with troubleshooting, researching the root cause, and thoroughly resolving defects in the event of a problem
• Identify performance issues; apply knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates)
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts issues, trends and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice

You own this if you have…

• 2+ years of professional experience in practice area
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Java and Python)
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience in writing and optimizing SQL queries in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
• Experience with several query languages, schema definition languages, and scripting languages
• Experience with big data processing technology (e.g. Apache Spark), data warehouse technical architecture, infrastructure components, ETL, and reporting/analytic tools and environments is a plus.
