JOB DUTIES:
Cat Digital's IoT Analytics team is looking for a talented and motivated Senior Data Scientist to develop and deliver ML/AI-based analytics and physics-based models to support product development for the enterprise as well as condition monitoring for customers. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will use machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, and other analytics techniques on time-series machine sensor data to better understand data patterns, failure modes, device health anomalies, etc. The work will relate to analytics and modeling of electrical devices, electrified vehicles, batteries, etc.
The Senior Data Scientist will:
Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge in the application statistical methods and/or digital methods to solve business problems
- Coach and mentor other Information Scientists in the creation, validation, and application of statistical models, as well as in implementing digital solutions;
- Participate on 3-4 projects concurrently
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.; its products and services; its internal systems, processes, and procedures; and its relevant external influences (competitors, laws and regulations, market conditions, etc.) to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Demonstrate strong initiative to research and apply new methods to exceed customer expectations.
- Have a strong focus on continual learning in the Analytics field
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. degree in a quantitative discipline , including physics or electrical engineering.
- Strong expertise in analytics, Machine Learning/AI, and their application to data modeling and analysis and good knowledge of the latest academic developments in this field
- Experience in physical modeling of complex devices, systems, or processes
- At least 1 years of advanced analytics work experience or its equivalent (post-doc) working with large datasets (focus on time-series analysis is preferred) and advanced algorithms
TOP CANDIDATE WILL ALSO HAVE:
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Publications in the field of ML/AI, physics, electrical engineering
- Demonstrated capability to take initiative and lead in the presence of ambiguity to deliver innovative solutions
- Strategic thinking capability to develop and communicate a clear and compelling vision for analytics
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong python programming skills
- Experience building or working with the popular cloud data and analytics platforms (such as AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Experience operating in Agile environment
- Experience working with software developers
- Understanding of the Internet of Things
Additional Details:
The preferred location is either Chicago, IL, Peoria, IL or Champaign, IL with flexibility for partial work from home, but will allow for fully remote work for the right candidate anywhere in the United States with travel expectations of up to 5- 10% of the time, as needed.
