The Visual Designer for Northern Trust's Digital Design System is an expert in scaling visual systems across digital products who plays an important role in evolving the Design System by creating a visual language, establishing best practices and centering accessibility. You will empower our teams of designers, product managers and technology engineers to build great experiences.

We're looking for:• 3 to 5 years of experience as a designer (in-house or agency) during which you contributed to or led the design and visual execution of product experiences• A portfolio of strong product design and visual systems work that demonstrate design thinking and UI/UX best practices• A clear growth mindset, excited by opportunities to learn and motivated to approach challenges proactively

Your Day-to-Day Work Will Include:• Maintaining, evolving and creating core styles and components in our Design System • Working closely with technology and design leadership to evolve the assets within our Design System• Collaborating with peers in design, product, marketing and technology to make informed decisions backed by strong design expertise• Consulting with technology and design teams using our Design System to ensure best practices are followed and evaluate opportunities for modernization• Creating guidelines and documentation that include best practices for how and why patterns, components and styles are applied • Acting as an ambassador for our Design System across the enterprise and within Experience Design & Research• Working with a team of designers to create inclusive, accessible components and best

practices for use across design and product teams

You'll Demonstrate Growth By:• Contributing to an open culture that enables employees' development through actionable feedback• Playing a part in strategic design leadership and collaborating across teams to ensure alignment across all stakeholders• Providing creative direction, conducting design reviews and balancing design decisions between research, technology and business objectives• Bringing leading-edge processes to the Experience Design & Research team to push our practice in new directions

Your Knowledge and Skills:

As a Visual Designer for the Digital Design System, you should have working knowledge or experience with the following:• Design thinking and UI/UX best practices• Ability to recognize, predict and incorporate use cases• Understanding of information design, typography and color theory• Proficiency in creating production-ready UI designs• Experience with participating and incorporating design research into projects
