The year ahead at Rise leading product design

Our top priority in the next year is to take everything we've learned over the past four years about creating sleep behavior change with elite athletes and designing a new experience for everyone.

It's a challenging problem because we need to develop an experience that is personalized to each of our users. The content of what we send and when we send is a ingredient that makes it feel like magic.

The advice to help someone that can't get to bed on time looks quite different than someone wanting to align their work activities with their circadian peaks (it's okay if you don't know what that is yet). The challenge is compounded because improving your sleep is a practice that happens for the rest of your life. Building a trustworthy, timeless experiences is no easy feat.

You'll be part of a core team doing research, interaction design, visual design, and thinking through copy. You're going to get your hands dirty. You'll develop the overall architecture of our app, create testable prototypes inspired by our users and sleep science, deliver finished designs, and iterate those designs with the product engineering team.

You'll play the lead role in deciding how the experience behaves and how it looks. You'll lead many parts of the design process and you'll influence what we should be building and why. You'll also get a seat at the table in defining who else should be on the core team.

We'll expect you to pour your heart and soul into this problem and if you do, we think you'll learn more and feel more fulfilled than almost anywhere else.

We find meaning in our work because the output of what we do directly increases human longevity and daily quality of life. If we get it right, we've got a shot to do that for billions of people.

We believe that time is our most valuable and limited resource and we feel privileged to work on solving one of the most pressing problems of this century.

If this is a challenge you're excited by we'd love to hear from you.

Why Now?

We have entire F500 companies asking us to help their co-workers with sleep but we can't yet support them. Our current product experience was designed for elite athletes and there are some exciting shifts that we need to make. That's where you come in.

A year in, what does success look like?

You've taken our existing learnings helping elite athletes get more and better sleep and refocused it for a new, much larger audience in a way that makes sense for them.

You've designed a new experience not focused on tracking or quick hacks but a long-term practice of healthy sleep and giving our users the most efficient, science-backed ways of solving common issues as they arise.

And you'll have a lot to show for your hard work. You'll help us hit our user growth numbers because the product doesn't need to be supported by undesirable human-in-the-loop product features. The interactions you've created will lead to even stronger sleep improvement and long term engagement. And you'll be leading a growing design team, selecting for the skills and personalities we need to continue discovering and building what our users love.

Where are there the usual job requirements?

We haven't found them to be that useful so we got rid of them. But if you're wondering, you probably consider yourself a designer that is crafty with some of the following: interaction design, visual design, product thinking, user research and copywriting.
