Tribune Publishing, home to numerous award-winning publications, is looking to hire Page Designers/Editors to join our newly created team called the Design and Production Studio (DPS), headquartered in Chicago.

The DPS will handle editorial production of the print newspapers for each of our eight daily metros, as well as suburban newspapers and other print products.

Responsibilities for designers include designing news, sports, local and business sections and section fronts for the majority of tronc papers. Solid editorial news judgment will be used to make decisions on deadline regarding typography, story and photo placement, and headline hierarchy. Designers will write headlines and trim stories, as well as work with editors and colleagues to enhance the visual presentation of Tribune Publishing newspapers.

Editors’ responsibilities will include curating appropriate news and features articles from wire sources; copy editing articles for publication; proofing and writing headlines; and designing modular content to be shared across all Tribune Publishing newspapers. Editors should have a strong command of the English language and editing skills that conform to accepted journalistic techniques and the style of the publication.

Successful designers and editors (Print Production Specialists) will possess initiative, good news judgment, attention to detail, incredible organizational skills and a commitment to accuracy. Designers and editors must be able to multitask and perform well under constant deadlines with minimal-to-moderate supervision.

Tribune Publishing's daily metros include The Baltimore Sun; Chicago Tribune; Virginia's Daily Press and The Virginian-Pilot; Hartford Courant; The Morning Call of Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; New York Daily News; Orlando Sentinel; and South Florida’s Sun Sentinel.
