Role Description:

At Oak Street Health, we are building the industry-leading clinical operations and population health platform to support the delivery of high quality care to the Medicare population. While technology built for healthcare is traditionally difficult to use, clerically burdensome, and impossible to navigate, Oak Street Health is working to restore joy to the practice of medicine by building solutions that are tailored to the needs of our Care Teams.

As a UX Lead, you will help us to revolutionize what design means in our industry by guiding our team through user research and visual design of high impact products for Oak Street's Care Teams. In partnership with Product and Engineering leadership, you will set the standards and processes to ensure that every product we develop "wows" our users with its ingenuity, intuitiveness, and function.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leadership / Management: You will lead and manage our UX team and be responsible for ensuring the professional development and growth of our team's capabilities. Additionally, you will partner closely with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure all initiatives are delivered to meet the goals of our team and our organization.

  • Design Quality: You will own the quality and consistency of UX design across all Oak Street products, ensuring that our tools are the easiest to use in the industry. From navigation and structure to development of a common component library, you will guide delivery of product designs that provide unmatched experiences to our users.

  • UX Research / Process: You will enhance our process for user / product research by employing different research methodologies based on the needs of the situation. You will be responsible for ensuring continuous improvement in our ability to capture and incorporate research-driven insights into our products.

  • Wireframing & Visual Design: You will be responsible for driving the wireframing, visual design, and interaction design process across multiple projects, often owning these activities individually or in partnership with another member of our UX team. You will own the process of gathering feedback from users and product stakeholders while building consensus around a common design prior to development.

  • Continuous Improvement: You will leverage both quantitative and qualitative methods for assessing design effectiveness and develop plans to address any opportunities for improvement.

  • User Advocacy: You will develop a deep understanding of our clinical workflows and the ways our users interact with our products throughout those workflows. Through this knowledge, you will be in a unique position to advocate for our users throughout the design process to ensure all new features and enhancements meet high standards for usability and intuitiveness.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • UX Research / Design Process Master: You have mastered the elements of the UX design process, from user research to wireframing to high fidelity prototypes. You feel comfortable defining and educating the team on best practices to ensure consistent design across our applications. This level of experience would typically translate to 3-5 years in the industry.

  • Designer's Eye: You have the ability to translate complex concepts and interactions into visually coherent wireframes or prototypes. This position requires someone with unmatched creativity.

  • Passion for Learning: You have a relentless desire to learn new things and will do whatever it takes to develop the depth of understanding needed to deliver the best designed solutions to your users.

  • Leadership / Mentorship: You love helping others become better designers and you feel excited about becoming a role model for what good UX design means.

  • User Interaction & Communication: You have the ability to interact and communicate effectively with users and business stakeholders alike.

  • Writing Skills: You must be able to write clearly, concisely, and quickly such that you can create succinct requirements documentation for interactive projects.

  • Comfort with Ambiguity: You don't shy away from the "unknown" and feel comfortable owning projects that do not have clear boundaries.

  • Personal Organization: You are comfortable working on / leading multiple projects simultaneously, with each project often at a different stage of the design process.

  • Experience with Common Design Tools: We frequently leverage Balsamiq, Sketch, Invision, Azure DevOps, PiwikPro, and UserIQ throughout our design process. While experience with these tools is a plus, we also look forward to your input on how we can enhance this toolset over time.

  • The ideal candidate will possess outstanding creativity, an acute attention to detail, and the ability to help define and solve complex user problems. Healthcare domain expertise is preferred but not required.

What does being "Oaky" look like?

  • Radiating positive energy

  • Assuming good intentions

  • Creating an unmatched patient experience

  • Driving clinical excellence

  • Taking ownership and delivering results

  • Being scrappy
