About the team
Uber's Design work ignites opportunity and changes the way the world moves for the better-we design for users around the world of all backgrounds and abilities. Our Product Equity team mission is to foster a culture of building inclusive experiences by enabling teams to prioritize the perspectives of historically and systemically excluded communities.
As a part of this team, Equity Design will lay the foundation to provide inclusive experiences to all users on the platform. Our work spans the entirety of the Uber experience by focusing not only on products and features, but also on evolving the systems that enable us to do so.
About the role
We are seeking a UX Researcher to join our Equity Design team-an integral part of Uber's Product Equity team. You'll take on research and service design challenges and work on big ideas that transform how people use our product and how we build it. You'll work closely with Equity Product and Engineering, Marketplace Fairness, Policy, Operations, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion teams to ensure we consider the full landscape around Social Justice and Accessibility. You'll help drive how we deliver on the Inclusive Design component of Uber's commitment to eliminate racism and disproportionate impact across the global Uber platform.
You should be comfortable in uncharted territory as we are building this practice for the first time, as the company continues to rapidly innovate and usher in an era where Uber enables you to go anywhere and get anything. We need your skills, enthusiasm, passion, and heart to make it happen.
What you'll do

  • Design and conduct qualitative studies, including field observations and interviews, remote, and in-person usability studies for existing and future products with a focus on historically and systemically excluded communities
  • Design and conduct quantitative studies, such as structuring and analyzing surveys to evaluate the impact of product changes and capture insights at scale
  • Benchmark the user experience of products overtime and against competitors
  • Collaborate with other researchers, designers, product managers, data scientists, marketing and operations managers, and engineers to ensure your research provides a holistic view of our users
  • Synthesize and communicate research findings to advise business decisions through rich storytelling via presentations, reports, workshops, and any other novel, creative approaches that you invent
  • Adapt and innovate research methods to meet accessibility, inclusion, and equity needs
  • Give and solicit feedback from other researchers to continually raise our bar for quality and inclusion

Basic qualifications

  • 1+ years of research experience
  • Growth mindset: humility, willingness to ask for help, and an eagerness to learn and grow
  • Impact driven: focused on the outcomes and impact for all users, not just the few

Preferred qualifications

  • A passion for understanding a global audience: not just through translation, but reimagining research so that it's effective in cultures around the globe
  • Demonstrated passion and experience advocating for accessibility, inclusion, and equity in product and service experiences
  • Ability to think beyond the digital screen and conduct research for human emotions and interactions in the physical world
  • Experience with research and tools/software that support accessibility and people with disabilities
  • A track record of conducting innovative, mixed methods research studies that improve the quality of existing and new experiences
  • Experience driving programs of research that fundamentally change design, product, and business priorities
  • Ability to strongly articulate your research insights and rationale to your peers and cross-functional team
  • Ability to travel within the United States and abroad
  • Ability to cultivate positive relationships even through difficult projects and subject matter
  • Case studies that demonstrate your breadth of skills as a researcher
