Role

Thinkship is looking for an entry-level Back End Software Engineer. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and interested in an opportunity to be part of a company that is rapidly growing. As a Back End Software Engineer at Thinkship, you will have the opportunity to work on projects for a wide range of clients using the Agile methodology. You will be expected to contribute to a number of projects each year with each project potentially using a different technology stack. You will have the opportunity to branch out and expand your toolset and knowledge base while working toward your own professional goals.

This a permanent full-time role and will be on-site in our Chicago office.

Requirements

Experience with object-oriented programming languages

• Experience with object-oriented code
• Familiarity with design concepts such as MVC, Dependency Injection, and Separation of Concerns
• Familiarity with creating and/or integrating APIs
• Experience with version control
• Experience with unit tests or test-driven development a plus

Critical thinking skills

• Ability to solve problems using creative methods and a detail-oriented approach
• Proactive identification and resolution of possible shortcomings and issues

Communication

• Must be able to work well with fellow team members
• Excellent written and verbal skills.

• Working with a project team to build data-driven web applications that meet the client's business needs
• Developing back end code that adheres to standards and best practices
• Testing project code
• Maintaining code base using version control
• Documenting projects and the project development process
• Learning new technology stacks
