Groupon’s Audience Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to help us with our mission of connecting and engaging customers with merchants worldwide as part of a rapidly evolving local commerce platform. As a technical contributor, you will help define and build the next generation targeting engine that leverages big data, analytics, algorithms and highly available, real-time distributed system principles.

Groupon is looking for a dynamic Sr. Data Engineer with at 6+ years of experience managing large EDW platforms with a large Hadoop footprint. Your primary duties for this would be to manage the Hadoop Administration, Architect solutions for the EDW Engineering teams, work with the analysts and help them with technical solutions related to Hadoop.

You’ll spend time on the following:  

Will work on Hadoop environments to build and support including  design, capacity planning, cluster set up, performance tuning and monitoring

Strong understanding of Hadoop eco-system such as HDFS,  MapReduce, HBase, Pig, Hadoop streaming, Sqoop, Spark/Shark and  Hive

Installing, administering, and supporting Linux operating systems and hardware in an enterprise environment

Contribute in typical system administration and programming skills  such as storage capacity management, performance tuning.

Setup, configuration and management of security for hadoop clusters.

Manage and monitor  Hadoop cluster and platform infrastructure

   Automate  cluster node  provisioning and  repetitive tasks.

Manage  Hadoop stack support  run book.

Responsible for cluster availability and  available 24×7 on call support.

Support development and production deployments.

We're excited about you if you have:  

BS/MS degree  in Computer Science or a related field

Hands on experience in Hadoop  and related technology stack.

Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity practice in hadoop stack

Proficient in shell and perl, python scripting

Good understanding and experience with Cloudera Hadoop stack

A deep understanding of Hadoop design principals, cluster connectivity, security and the factors that affect distributed system performance.

Cloudera  Certification is a plus.

Strong software development or scripting skills – Java development a plus

Strong knowledge and experience in  supporting Linux environments

Good understanding  of ETL processes.

Experience maintaining, troubleshooting   and setup large clusters.

Experience supporting  systems with 24X7 availability requirement

Ability to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve live systems        issues

Technical documentation skill  on supported application and Operational     tools.

   Strong  knowledge  in open source monitoring tools and   Hadoop monitoring tools.ers
