At Tanvas, our mission is to make your interactions with touchscreens more interesting, more natural, and more engaging. We have developed a novel “haptic” touchscreen technology that not only tracks the fingertips, but controls what they feel: textures, edges, collisions, and even the illusion of shape on a featureless glass panel.  Tanvas is based in downtown Chicago's easy-access west loop neighborhood. If you’re looking for a vibrant, small company whose culture is one of open debate, continual learning, independent work and peer-to-peer accountability, we are the right choice for your next career move.

The Role:  We are seeking a full time Electrical/Electronics Applications Engineer who will be responsible for extending the TanvasTouch electronics platform to other products and customers.  He/She will implement and support new board designs and will gather and integrate customer electrical specifications and feedback.  Responsibilities include:

  • Design and delivery of electronic control boards that are tailored to new custom TanvasTouch panels.
  • Prototyping and testing new circuit designs or modifications to TanvasTouch electronics architecture in order to meet new customer specs.
  • Working with mechanical and firmware engineering teams to deliver new TanvasTouch enabled hardware platforms, specifically tablet or automotive platforms.
  • Communication of the TanvasTouch electronics architecture with outside customers.

The Candidate:

  • BSEE or BSCE minimum + 3-5 years’ experience in hands-on electrical engineering
  • ECAD: experienced with all stages of PCBA design, manufacture, assembly, and test. This includes schematic capture, BOM creation, and layout. Autodesk Eagle familiarity is a plus.
  • Capable of understanding and testing to various EMC, EMI, ESD, safety, power, environmental, and other reliability specifications.  Regulatory compliance testing experience a strong plus.
  • Basic understanding of embedded analog and digital circuits including multiplexing, analog to digital conversion, digital communications, line drivers, boost conversion and power regulation, USB communication, microcontroller interfacing.
  • Instrumentation and measurement capability: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, differential probing, and other high voltage or less common probing techniques.
  • Comfort with functional prototyping, proof of concept, or designing for production.
  • Familiarity with capacitive sensing and digital signal processing is a plus, especially any background in multi-touch panels.

Benefits:  Full time Tanvas employees are eligible for paid vacation, full health and dental coverage and other benefits including H.S.A., commuter benefit plan, and 401K.
