Job Description

 

An Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability at this level supports infrastructure and operational components, applications, device software, services or networks with minimal supervision. 

 

Nordstrom Credit Technology designs, develops, and maintains systems that support our credit customers from new account acquisitions, to account maintenance including online and mobile interfaces, through fraud detection and payment collection. We work closely with our business partners using Agile processes in a DevOps model that focuses on continuous improvement. We utilize technologies such as Kubernetes, Apache Kafka, and AWS to provide these foundations. We focus on automation and continuous integration and deployment to deliver quality results quickly. 

 

A day in the life… 

·       Create quality, testable code and maintain a high bar for code quality, testing and automation while finding opportunities to continuously improve them

·       Identify performance issues, apply knowledge of secure coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates), and troubleshoot issues

·       Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts, issues, trends and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice

·       Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems or functions

·       Contribute to documentation of technical designs of systems 

·       Design and collaborate with local and partner teams 

·       Work independently while demonstrating a bias for action and flexibility to evolving business needs

 

You own this if you have… 

  • 2+ years of experience with object-oriented languages such as C# or Java 
  • 2+ years hands-on experience testing software systems in virtual and cloud-based environments 
  • 2+ years of experience writing Behavior Driven Development (BDD) test cases in Cucumber or Specflow using Gherkin 
  • 2+ years of experience with service-based architectures 
  • 1+ years recent experience building applications on a cloud provider, AWS preferred 
  • 1+ years of experience with NOSQL data sources 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent experience 
  • Understands how to log events and review and publish metrics for the systems worked on to allow for automated monitoring of application health 
  • Experience with containerization (K8/Docker) is a plus 
  • Experience with messaging technologies and patterns (Kafka/SQS) is a plus 
  • Experience with event sourcing patterns is a plus 
  • Experience in the payment card domain is a plus 
  • Experience supporting a 99% uptime application
