The Role, along with everything you’d expect...

• The Front End Engineer role is an ideal opportunity to have your impressive development skills noticed on a small, collaborative team, and to have an impact on both tooling and team culture
• The role is also a great fit for candidates who are interested in having a voice in the design of solutions, and we’re making a lot of cool decisions this year
• The Front End Engineer will work very closely with our Director of Engineering and Engineering Lead and will play an integral role in important decisions that shape the front end engineering side of our business
• Along with autonomy, you can expect lots of work diversity. We’re a small team, so you could be working on our website redesign one day, and creating a component library the next
• This is a great opportunity to learn about the trading industry and financial markets without the pressure of working directly in it
• You can also learn about how a small company runs and makes decisions. We’re really transparent about everything from leadership decisions to numbers tracking

The Ideal Candidate

• HTML, CSS and modern JavaScript fundamentals, and exposure to one of the major JavaScript frameworks are required for your success here. 
• Experience with web development, interacting with RESTful APIs, and source control (in particular git) are required
• Familiarity with Front end Engineering design patterns and best practices; Not only do you know the fundamentals and can write amazing code but you understand and can recommend best practices and common design patterns.
• Strong familiarity with modern JavaScript tooling and CI/CD; Building features is only part of the job, Understanding build tooling, package managers, testing frameworks, etc is important in order to get quality applications to production.
• Bonus points awarded for familiarity with back end technologies; whether you're scaling full stack apps or just handling the occasional database call, comfort throughout the stack will set you up for front end success at Topstep, especially with Python, Ruby, or Node
• Self-starting mindset is a must; we don’t hand down perfect spec sheets and expect them to be completed as written. We need your input, recommendations, and initiative
• Communication skills; you love to think about the best ways to solve problems we’re working on, so ability to clearly communicate those ideas is crucial
• Open-minded and collaborative. Being open to using different tools and willingness to work closely on a team are essential for your happiness and success here
• Ability to use discretion and critical thinking. One of our company values is ‘Empowered people yield great results’, so we’re looking for someone who wants to learn and grow
• Thoughts on your favorite JS framework. React? Vue? Backbone? JS++? We're always looking for new tech tools to play with!
