We built a robust mobile app community with nearly 700,000 members across the U.S. and Canada with a mission to connect, educate, and inspire others to dig plants. It’s a Top 10 Lifestyle app in the Play Store and App store and was listed in Better Homes & Gardens as abest gardening app.’

We also have SaaS product built for partners in the space – garden shops, botanic gardens, flower shows, plant breeders, and plant distributors. The products help businesses learn more about consumer preferences, make better decisions, and increase sales.

Responsibilities

Development – Develop our mobile application project – full lifecycle. Produce high quality code that satisfies both the business functional requirements as well as the non-functional requirements. Work in an agile, BDD environment.

Establishing and driving standards - Drive standards and tools for development initiatives that establish best practices and code guidelines. Participate and contribute to all phases in building new digital products, including programming, defect correction, unit testing, code review, and deployment planning. Test automation is part of your philosophy.

Design – We leverage contractors for big UX and design projects, but we need our in-house developers ready to negotiate design decisions with product owner and other developers at a story or feature level.

Communication – Day-to-day, you’ll work with the head of product, other developers, and business stakeholders. You are an effective communicator so even non-tech folks can understand what you’re up to and how we can all plan accordingly for seamless development, testing, deployment, and implementation.

Leveraging your expertise in Big Data, IoT, Native Cloud, Application Development, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, you will join a product team that is building products that will transform the horticulture industry and improve the way people learn about plants.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Must have skills: Java, Android Studio, Android SDK, Kotlin, and experience with Ruby on Rails or REST API. 5-7 years of professional experience on a product team.

Nice to have skills: experience managing AWS environments, microservice architecture, PostgreSQL, Docker, Linux system administration skills, Circle CI, Fastlane, and experience with 3rd party integration tools and APIs like Mapbox, MailChimp, Estimote, Adjust, Localytics

Experience with consumer facing apps

This is a small product team moving towards shared management responsibilities for the infrastructure and we are implementing a high level of automation

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or related field or commensurate experience

Requirements

Working knowledge of agile, test-driven or behavior-driven development

Passionate about staying current on trends and best practices in mobile development

Patient, personable, and open-minded individual
