IoT Engineer

| Chicago

Why Nerdery?

Nerdery is a digital business consultancy entering one of the most exciting phases of growth in its 15-year history. We start with identifying business value and digital strategy and how that relates to the human experience of our clients customers, but then - within the same organization - we move all the way through design and engineering, enabled by a top class delivery organization. That means we can not only co-create the innovative ideas companies need in order to win in this new economy - but we can actually build them right in-house without any discontinuity whatsoever.

Why is this role important to Nerdery's work?

IoT enables us to create things never thought possible just a few years ago. With the knowledge & power of IoT, we can transform our clients' businesses in ways they haven't thought of yet. Ways that can and will change their businesses for the better. This role is a key ingredient to offering, designing, and developing advanced engineering solutions to our current and future client base. You will be the leader for us in this space.

Who are we looking for?

Beyond having 5+ years' experience within the software industry, you are a technologist who has deep expertise within multiple areas of technology including various programming languages, middleware, APIs, Git, and more. You live and breathe solving business problems with innovative IoT solutions.

In your career you've been told that you have a distinct ability to communicate easily and effectively with both technical and non-technical clients & stakeholders. And you enjoy doing so.

As an engineer you have specific experience with using provisioning technologies to deploy Firmware and/or Software to devices as well as providing direction on prototyping software for IoT deploying. Though you may not have developed hardware directly, you can easily speak to it.

The thought of taking a product from ideation, to prototype, to production-level system with a suite of cross-industry clients is both exciting and challenging to you.

Why apply?

Nerdery is a company that is focusing on the tomorrow of technology — we work on enabling our clients to tackle tough problems.  Here, you'll get to focus on and help shape our clients' futures through the advanced use of IoT.

Now what?

Once you apply, a Talent Advocate (not a robotic system) will review your application and if you're a solid fit, will set up initial phone call.

We hope to hear from you soon!

An Insider's view of Nerdery

What’s the vibe like in the office?

What I appreciate the most is the solution-focused attitude. Projects inherently have risk and problems will happen. When they do, there is no energy wasted on assigning blame. Everyone involved, from president to engineer, asks 'how can we solve this?' and 'how can we learn from it?' We solve it and move forward as a whole.

What projects are you most excited about?

I'm excited to be embedded within large clients. The Nerdery is a driving force for change and it's cool to be at the forefront of that. We're responsible for bringing a client's code and development practices up to date with modern standards. It's not always fast or easy, but is rewarding.

How does the company support your career growth?

I've been able to stretch my learning muscles on a variety of interesting projects centered around my discipline. The folks on other teams are also excited to talk to about the work that they are doing. Personal growth appears in many forms. Continued success through specialized focus and discussions of polyglot natures are both supported here.

At The Nerdery we are always encouraging our teams to build on their curiosity through office projects, meetups, training and more. My role in this is to be the advocate for our Nerds in supporting this growth.
