Production Systems Engineer (Metrics, Logging, Monitoring, Observability)
The Production Systems Engineer is an operationally focused engineer that will contribute to handling the operations for Metrics, Logging, Monitoring, Observability at Groupon. The user's primary responsibilities include maintaining system operations, providing user support and promoting internal standards, procedures, and policies. Strong intellectual curiosity and love of problem-solving with a passion for getting involved to drive action for direct impact on business outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with other Engineering teams and users of metrics, logging, and monitoring tools to plan and coordinate efforts to achieve optimal data analysis for the global user community
Respond to support requests for optimizing searches and employing best practices
Understand Groupon’s data pipelines and make recommendations based on business use cases
Ensure partnerships with engineering teams to understand their applications (services) and logging needs, and help them adhere to solid log design for success and stability of the platform
Conduct 1:1 and group training, as required, to advance the analytics & platform knowledge and skills of our global user base
Build automation for repetitive tasks and for reducing touch operations
Solve complex technical questions/problems in an highly dynamic operations environment and demonstrate great problem solving abilities
Qualifications:
Experience with operation and development of metrics, analytics, and alerting systems (Wavefront, Telegraf, Nagios, Collectd, Splunk, etc)
Familiarity with JIRA, Nagios, Git, YAML, Ansible, LDAP, and distributed Linux based infrastructure systems and internals (kernel/libraries, filesystems, package management, etc.)
Strategic thinker that is forward-looking, thinks about the big picture, connects the dots and identifies interrelationships between business elements
Experience and a deep understanding of both structured and non- (or semi-) structured data.
Clear evidence of analytical, problem solving, and strong logical thinking skills.
Experience in and understanding of a wide variety of analytical data processes (governance, measurement, etc.)
