The Why

We are a dynamic growth-stage company with tons of momentum (ranked #2116 on the 2019 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies). At Topstep, individuals fully own their roles and are charged with meaningfully driving results.

Our technology team is growing and relies heavily on each member to contribute at each step of the development process, from requirements gathering through to testing and feedback. Our team is looking for a Quality Assurance Analyst who lives and breathes overall quality of our product. Our QA team works closely with many people, including our Engineering Manager, our Product Managers, our Marketing and Support teams, and obviously our dev team, so immediate feedback and collaboration is guaranteed. Work/life balance for all departments is a big perk of working here.

Excited about this opportunity? Read on, keeping in mind that we strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. Each new hire is an opportunity for us to bring in a different perspective, and we are always eager to further diversify our company. Topstep believes that diverse people and ideas result in better business, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where you can thrive.

The Role

  • The Quality Assurance Analyst role is an ideal opportunity to take what you’ve learned about test execution and help shape the processes and culture of the QA team
  • Focused on testing the systems in terms of functionality, performance, reliability, and stability
  • Triage and troubleshoot complex user-reported system defects and assist in various system troubleshooting, balancing, and correcting efforts including analysis, verification, and validation of issues and fixes
  • You’ll focus primarily on manual testing, but will have the chance to learn about test automation
  • Work cross-departmentally with our Trader Support team and third party systems to diagnose, investigate, and resolve bugs
  • This role is perfect for a critical thinker who can see the whole picture - quality of our entire product, not just of a single test you’re running - and who will enjoy analyzing and choosing the best method of testing to deliver that
  • The role is also a great fit for candidates who want to learn more about the trading industry while ensuring a quality product for our users, who interact with it every day

The Ideal Candidate

  • Desire to own your role, from taking initiative to work with our Trader Support team, to staying up to date learning about modern testing tooling and best practices, your overall objective is the success and usability of our product. You don’t want test specs constantly handed over to you for testing, but rather you want to dig in to each project, learn about it, and provide the best results for your team
  • Communication skills. You love to think of ways to make the product better as you’re testing, and you think of user experience at every turn, so the ability to clearly communicate those ideas is crucial!
  • Open-minded and collaborative. Openness to using different tools, including quality management software, and willingness to work closely on a team are essential for your happiness and success here
  • Ability to use discretion and critical thinking. Whether you’re assisting our Trader Support team diagnose an issue, deciding how to test a particular feature, or noticing an opportunity to smooth communication between a department and our dev team, you don’t rely solely on process or instruction to make your impact
  • Knowledge of manual testing vs test automation; you don’t have to be an expert in test automation but having a desire to learn about it and understanding the role automation plays in software testing is important
