WHAT DO WE NEED?

This senior-level Cloud Data Engineer will be a key member of the SPINS Product Intelligence team, working to improve and scale our existing architecture and systems. For 20 years, SPINS' mission has been to grow the CPG products industry and increase the accessibility of better-for-you products that help consumers live healthier and more vibrant lives. SPINS' commitment to healthier lives has recently been strengthened by the new members of the SPINS family, Food Facts. Food Facts is the first nutritional ingredient database to relate food products to allergens in order to show people what's really in the food they're eating. In this role, the Senior Cloud Data Engineer will develop and support the data analytic technologies on GCP that bring value to our customers using the latest in no-ops technologies, including DataFlow and BigQuery.

The Senior Cloud Data Engineer is excited and passionate about new and emerging technologies, machine learning and cloud computing; they'll take responsibility for code quality and proliferate best practices across the development team through code reviews and testing. This individual will seek out and advocate for architectural improvements to minimize pain points within our infrastructure and code base and will strive to automate solutions and focus on scale. The right candidate believes in continuous delivery and iterating on code and features, and is able to manage their own time. The Senior Cloud Data Engineer is someone who is hungry to contribute and learn and is excited to work at a a mission-driven company.

WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES?

  • Interface with business customers, gathering requirements and delivering complete BI solutions.
  • Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources and APIs
  • Develop ETL pipelines using Google Cloud technologies using best practices.
  • Utilize data analysis techniques including machine learning to categorize and make predictions.
  • Writes queries involving table alterations, views, selects, inner and outer joins, and optimized queries in MySQL and BigQuery.
  • Writes clear and concise technical documentation and user guides

YOU PROBABLY HAVE...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, related technical field, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years professional experience
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, or related field
  • Expertise in big data techniques such as cleansing, ETL, map-reduce, and machine learning
  • Experience in a cloud computing platform such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
  • Experience using cloud based Big Data solutions such as BigQuery or Redis
  • Expertise in Java 8
  • Experience using SQL, ETL and databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
  • Knowledgeable in formalized QA/Testing strategy, processes, methodologies, and standards
  • Familiar with Agile frameworks and testing process implications.
  • Experience using a unit testing framework such as Junit.
  • Able to clearly articulate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated strong analysis, problem resolution, judgment and decision-making skills.
  • The following skills and experience are a plus:
    • Master’s degree in a Big Data related field
    • Google Cloud Data Engineer/Architect Professional Certification
    • Knowledge of Advanced SQL
    • Linux & Linux Bash Scripts
    • RESTFul API development
    • Experience with Google DataFlow
