Nordstrom has embarked on a journey to transform our approach to data and analytics from a batch-centric platform with siloed data marts, to our Nordstrom Analytical Platform (NAP), a real-time, event-streaming-centric, analytical platform that provides high quality, pre-stitched 360 views of our customers, products, inventory, customer service, fulfilment/logistics, and credit.

As a Senior Engineer you will lead the development ofinnovative solutions for streaming analytics. You will have opportunities to collaborate and share ideas with your peers across the organization in an environment that supports the free exchange of ideas. You will work directly with business partners to innovate and design for changing retail environment.

A day in the life…

• Responsible for feature design; evaluate designs and provide feedback

• Influence quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution

• Identify performance issues and optimize solutions

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals

• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices

You own this if you have these skills and experience

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent work experience

• 6+ years professional experience

• Proficient in analyzing, designing and developing reliable and scalable solutions

• Proficient in more than 1 Object Oriented language such as Java, C#, C++ etc.

• Proven track record in Java tools and frameworks, for example maven, gradle, Springboot

• Scripting, prefer python

• real-time data streaming (for example, Kafka/Kafka Streams/Flink/)

• RESTful architecture

•  micro-services

• cloud-based services (AWS/GCP)

• containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes)

• Good communication skills (verbal and written)

• Provide guidance and oversight for implementation and delivery of a feature

• Collaborate with other engineers and leads on feature design and delivery to business users

• Provide mentoring to other developers and engineers on best engineering practices
