The Role

Future Finance is expanding access and opportunity for deserving university students and young professionals in the UK. We are currently accepting applications for software engineering and testing professionals to join our team in Chicago to help us do this.

As part of the tech team, you will be responsible for building out new products and transitioning the existing tech stack to be more scalable and growth-oriented to help the company provide services to an order of magnitude more students.

The Software Engineer in Test will have ownership over the end to end testing process for all applications, and will lead the engineering team’s test coverage, release velocity and production health. You will have the primary responsibility for effective assurance of product quality through test automation, code inspections and other forms of engineering excellence.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop and own the end-to-end testing process for all applications deployed to production

• Lead and collaborate on improving engineering team's test coverage, release velocity and production health

• Work with Product & Development to ensure testable software.

• Work with the business to leverage software technology for the largest customer impact

• Collaborate with a geographically diverse team in Dublin and Chicago

• Solve complex technical challenges

• Design and build advanced automated development, build, test, release and monitoring infrastructure

• Analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence design for engineering excellence

• Participate in and own code reviews

• Write automated tests & ensure test coverage

• Write code/scripts to test systems, implementing test harnesses and infrastructure as necessary

Your Skills

• Deep knowledge of test methodologies, writing test plans, creating test cases and debugging

• Experience creating test strategies and plans, and building end to end system functional test protocols

• Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux environments

• Well-rounded engineering skills, and proven software development skills building and/or testing web applications with full-stack experience

• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well with other engineers

• Experience building automation frameworks and/or test infrastructure from scratch

• Experience working as the key tester or the only test engineer, including verification and/or validation testing.

• Experience with API testing and performance testing.

• Hands-on ability to automate repeated tasks and build test coverage through existing or new infrastructure

• Belief in automation and tooling as a critical part of the software lifecycle

Your Qualifications

- Degree in Computer Science, Maths, or other related field or equivalent experience

- 5+ years of software development and/or test automation experience

Your Nice to Have Skills

- Experience working in financial industry or FinTech

- Experience working in fast-paced startup environments.

- Experience using PostgreSQL or other Relational Databases

- Comfort with functional programming and/or robust type systems

- Experience with one or more programming language:  Ruby, SQL, Javascript, Typescript, or Haskell

- Experience working in development team(s) that have delivered commercial software or software-based services

- Personal initiative in learning new technologies

- Experience working in highly regulated industries
