Job Description

divvyDOSE is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to help lead and grow our Platform Engineering teams. As the manager of the Platform Engineering team, you will work closely with the Director and technical leads overseeing the Platform team’s direction in order to set objectives for your team, as well as ensure that your team’s processes and growth strategies are well-defined and well-utilized. You will also be a key decision-maker in the evolution of the Platform Engineering organization and responsible for leading a highly-skilled team to success as they build foundational solutions that help drive the success of our cloud-native platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers focused on site reliability, release, security, and/or data engineering areas of our technology platform.
  • Collaborate with your manager and the Platform tech leads to turn technical objectives into a realistic and well-defined roadmap.
  • Create hiring strategies that serve your team’s roadmap.
  • Assist engineers in their performance, professional development and technical skills by providing regular feedback and mentorship.
  • Define, run, and evolve the day-to-day processes and activities that your team uses to be successful in meeting its goals. You will be the “master of ceremonies” for these key activities within your team’s SDLC and be responsible for championing their value to the larger organization.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to help foster an inclusive, collaborative culture and positive work environment.
  • Help build a transparent environment that enables respectful cador and promotes a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and self-organization.
  • Give/receive feedback effectively and coach others to do the same.
  • Use facilitation techniques to achieve alignment and uncover areas of confusion.
  • Ensure the team maintains focus on objectives, goals and scope for each sprint.
  • Track progress to plan for all sprints in order to proactively communicate and manage risk.
  • Address roadblocks faced by your team through advocacy and creative problem-solving.
  • Own vendor relationships and work with your manager to help set and keep budgets.

Required Skills

  • Experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Experience with cloud-based platform environments, especially in AWS.
  • Proficient in one or more of the following: Python, Golang, Ruby, Java.
  • Excellent analytical, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Strong development background with experience in architecture design.
  • Management and mentorship skills to facilitate career growth and coaching of engineers and technical initiatives.
  • 5-7 years prior experience in software development and 2+ years managing high performance software teams.
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies (preferably Kanban).
  • Experience with Linux.

Desired experience in one or more of the following areas

  • Experience working in a platform/automation/devops-focused engineering environment.
  • Experience working with managed services in AWS.
  • Familiarity with engineering competencies in one or more of the following areas: site reliability, observability, security, release (CI/CD), data (pipelines, ETL, analysis, etc.).
  • Developing technical documentation and knowledge bases.
  • Tracking work and maintaining backlogs using JIRA.
