The Northern Trust Shared Services Technology team is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the Transaction Processing development team. We are seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager who will provide consultation to the business unit and technology team and IT Project management and strategies. They will be responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of assigned projects, providing a single point of contact, while taking projects from original concept through final implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for project meetings, tracking and analysis.
  • Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables.
  • Provides specialized knowledge and analytical guidance to project team.
  • Helps define project scope and objectives.
  • Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans and status reports.
  • Acts as a resource for direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.
  • Handles the most complex IT projects.
  • Coordinates with business partners to determine requirements.
  • Experienced, functional expert with technical and/or business knowledge and functional expertise.
  • Develops periodic goals, organizes work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work by employees and outside technology contractors.
  • Communicates with various business areas, outside vendors, consultants and clients.
  • Provides feedback to management on contractor performance and recommends changes.
  • May manage daily operational activities and supervise day-to-day work of project team employees (but not a formal management role).
  • May approve contractor time sheets and project team change requests.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
  • Experience as a project team member lead.
  • Seasoned experience in the technology and financial services industry.
  • Excellent consultative and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external client, business partner, and IT staff and management.
  • Programming analysis and design expertise with trading applications and knowledge of Capital Markets related acumen and required capabilities is preferred.
  • Has worked in both Agile and Waterfall project management environments.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Specialized knowledge of IT projects, good consultative skills, strong analytical ability and able to work effectively with clients, vendors, IT management and staff.
  • Strong analytical skills are needed to analyze and evaluate technical information and coordinate projects.
  • Requires strong communication, technical teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus and able to effectively communicate in various instances.
