Accounting Manager
We’re seeking an Accounting Manager to lead our Accounting team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the ideal person for this position has manager level experience in accounting and tax, enjoys improving processes, and understands the importance of accurate and timely financial reporting.
This is a full-time role based in Chicago. Our team utilizes a hybrid model with flexibility for in-office and remote work.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 5+ years of experience
- CPA required and Big 4 accounting experience preferred
- 2+ years of company experience with omni-channel retail business experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, operational risk assessment, and management financial reporting
- Experience working hands-on with an eye for opportunities to improve upon the status quo
- Proven ability to manage projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Understanding of various taxes such as income tax, payroll tax, sales tax, and franchise tax
- Ability to handle complex accounting situations such as equity transactions, fully landed costing calculations, asset capitalization, and recognition of deferred taxes
- Experience with accounting systems and ERPs such as Quickbooks, Bill.com, Brightpearl, NetSuite or similar preferred
Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire accounting process from daily transaction processing to financial reporting and everything in between
- Manage the month-end close process by recording necessary journal entries and perform account reconciliations
- Create monthly, quarterly, and annual packages of financial statements and supporting documentation
- Co-lead ERP or inventory management software implementation in 2023
- Develop monthly analysis to explain movements in accounts and prepare management materials
- Plan and oversee ongoing internal processes to push for efficiencies, automation, and accuracy of financial management and financial systems
- Develop monthly analysis to explain movements in accounts and prepare management materials
- Lead annual financial review, field exam, and income tax preparation engagements with external accounting firm
- Work with payroll processor and benefits broker to manage payroll and benefits
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and process documentation
- Handle monthly, quarterly and annual sales tax filings through Avalara tax software
- Manage all Accounts Payable and supplier payments including reconciling to purchase orders and shipping invoices
- Manage all Accounts Receivable including timely invoicing to wholesalers, payment reconciliation, and collections
- Work with the Head of Finance and FP&A department to provide standard and ad-hoc reporting necessary for financial planning and analysis projects
