About the Role: The Director of Finance will report to the Chief Financial Officer and be responsible for managing the ongoing financial accounting activities for Magma’s investment funds. In addition, this individual will work closely with senior management to create a company budget, process ongoing expenses, and forecast profit and loss as the company grows. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Operate in accordance with all applicable legal and regulatory obligations 

  • Manage and maintain Magma’s investment funds 

  • Review monthly and ad hoc net asset value (“NAV”) reports for Magma’s investment funds 

  • Analyze monthly and ad hoc fund performance and provide periodic reports to management 

  • Reconcile fund discrepancies with Magma’s fund administrator and escalate issue to senior management 

  • Identify potential operational risks and take initiatives to reduce risk and enhance efficiency of the fund 

  • Review investor financial statements prior to distribution 

  • Research opportunities to enhance fund performance through expense reduction 

  • Prepare periodic fund financial statements, including statement of financial condition, statement of operations, statement of cash flows, schedule of investments, and changes in partner capital 

  • Assist Magma’s internal auditor in preparing and distributing year-end financial reports 

  • Process company expenses and report periodic bank balances to senior management 

  • Create monthly unaudited profit and loss statements for the management company 

  • Assess company spend data to create a company budget 

  • Forecast management company profit and loss based on historical data 

  • Assist in other tasks related to accounting and finance as necessary 

 

Key Skills & Attributes: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, or related field; Master’s degree or CPA designation preferred 

  • 2-5 years of experience in a corporate accounting or finance role; direct hedge fund experience preferred 

  • Knowledge of hedge fund and GAAP accounting principles 

  • Familiarity with QuickBooks or other accounting software 

  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Excel 

  • Keen eye to details and good presentation skills 

  • Excellent research skills and ability to use data to inform decision-making 

  • Maintain ethical standards while dealing with the funds and clients 

  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision and collaborate cross-functionally  

  • Self-motivated
