Position Summary:

Position Title:  Finance and Business Development Lead

Reports to: CEO

Supervises: Finance Associate

Collaborates with: Collaboration across all NowPow departments will be required

 

Position Description:

This is an exciting role for a person eager to continue to build and oversee the full scope of a finance and control function in a quickly growing start up.  This role is both the glue that binds the business together and the fulcrum for initiating change within the organization. This position will need to both look backwards to see actual performance and look around the corner to forecast and advise on strategic initiatives.  NowPow has a great foundation in this area and is seeking a leader to build upon this existing infrastructure to prepare us for continued fast paced growth.

 

NowPow’s Finance and Business Development Lead oversees the company’s Finance function and Business Development initiatives. This individual leads the operating and financial planning process, creates and monitors appropriate business and financial controls, and manages NowPow’s cash.  The Lead also has deep business knowledge to be able to identify improvement opportunities across the business functions and works with other leaders to implement.  With participation from the CEO, the Lead is also responsible for fund raising and investor/board management for NowPow to include identifying and soliciting prospective investors, engaging in discussions and follow up and preparing any due diligence necessary. 

 

All legal contracting including negotiations if necessary also fall under the responsibility of the Lead.  This includes customer and vendor contracting. With respect to business development, the Lead participates with Sales in iterating NowPow pricing and engaging with prospective business partners or prospects that fall outside the normal sales sectors.  Often the Lead will be analyzing whether or not a new initiative is worth NowPow devoting time and money to it. The Lead is also the Chief Compliance Officer for NowPow.

 

This position interacts with all departments but works most closely with:

  • Sales – supporting pricing initiatives, and contracting
  • Customer Success – managing strategic initiatives, renewals, and accounts receivable
  • Service Information – metrics measurement and forecasting staffing

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Finance and Accounting function
    • Lead operating and financial planning process
    • Create company and departmental budgets and all associated reporting, revising as needed
    • Create forward-looking revenue and overall financial forecasts
    • Establish company metrics, measure, and monitor progress against
    • Work with departments to identify ways to improve performance against key objectives and metrics
    • Oversee outside accounting and audit activities with outside CPA firm
    • Ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines
  • Plan, procure and disburse cash
    • Manage all aspects of the Accounts Receivable and collections process with customers including budgeting and creating customer forecasts
    • Oversee entire Accounts Payable and expense management process
  • Manage all customer and vendor contracting and HIPAA and contract compliance
    • Manage all customer and vendor contract negotiations
    • Manage insurance and state tax requirements
    • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and customer contract requirements
    • Perform other functions as Chief Compliance Officer
  • Oversee Investor, Board, and Advisor relations and communications
    • Prepare CEO for external conversations with board, advisors, and investors
    • Manage all communications and process with existing and potential future investors
    • Lead efforts for future fundraising for debt or equity capital
    • Monitor all financial covenants and reporting requirements for all stakeholders
  • Lead investigation into new business partnerships or sectors and iterate pricing models in collaboration with Sales and Customer Success
    • Evaluate non-traditional business overtures from other potential technology partners or sector initiatives outside NowPow’s core markets
    • Support Sales in iterating NowPow’s pricing models

 

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to leading and managing in a manner consistent with NowPow’s company values
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic start-up environment
  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA is highly desired
  • 3-5 years of finance leadership or experience managing a brand or product strategy
  • Understanding of all aspects of the finance life-cycle, including revenue, collections, and payables
  • Understanding of SaaS business metrics and how to create and apply them is highly desired
  • Excellent PowerPoint, Excel, and Word skills and comfortable with leveraging technology like Customer Relationship Management tools (e.g. Insightly) in workflow
  • Robust negotiating skills to manage customer, vendor, and potential partnership relationships
  • Strategic vision with the ability to create models, processes and innovative solutions from scratch, with minimal guidance
  • Track record of preparing materials for advisors, investors, and board is highly desired
  • Knowledge of the venture capital process with experience having gone through a fundraise a bonus is ideal
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to influence, persuade, and facilitate effective working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to generate new ideas, iterate on various processes, and anticipate problems before they arise
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; effective at public speaking
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a dynamic mixture of tasks
  • Strong track-record of setting and meeting delivery commitments and working independently with little supervision
  • Commitment to social impact initiatives and helping underserved communities
