Groupon is looking for a talented, highly motivated individual to join its accounting team as a Senior Accountant specifically focused on the Groupon Goods side of the business.  The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role on the team as he/she will play a key role in the month end close process and work with heads of various departments of the Goods business.  A diverse background which incorporates skillsets relating to accounting, financial analysis, and technology will be needed in order to perform the functions required of this role. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for month end close processes surrounding Groupon Goods, including:
    • Inbound & Outbound freight accruals and capitalization
    • Reconciliation of fulfillment accruals
    • Warehouse SG&A expense reporting
    • Identification and reconciliation of trade accruals
    • Reconciliation of accounts receivable
    • Prepaid amortization schedules
    • Intercompany Transactions
    • Inventory Reconciliation
      • Manage quarterly inventory count process
      • Reviewing daily/weekly/monthly inventory rollforwards
      • Lower-of-cost-or-market valuations of inventory
    • Cash reconciliations
    • Variance analysis on general ledger accounts
  • Collaborate closely with various departments such as Finance, Legal, Sales, Logistics, and Operations departments to:
    • Provide explanations and briefs to Finance department on actuals
    • Review of merchant-related contract revisions affecting accounting
    • Analyze accounting impact of operational changes and new business ideas
  • Work with Engineering and Financial Systems teams on:
    • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting
    • Building out reporting to facilitate month end and interim assignments
    • Validate business logic used in operational reports
  • Become a fundamental fixture in the Goods channel, including developing processes from the ground up and improving work papers based on business changes
  • Assist management with Sarbanes-Oxley procedures, tax, and audit requests surrounding Groupon Goods
  • Supervise staff accountants on day-to-day processes
  • Specific projects and other ad hoc assignments as required

Key Competencies

  • Sound understanding of US GAAP and general ledger / month-end processes
  • Ability to work as a team and individually to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with accounting software (preferably NetSuite)
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge
  • Strong personality is required; this position is not for the meek of heart!

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA and Big 4 firm experience is a plus
  • 3-5 years accounting experience
