We all depend on healthcare throughout our lifetimes, for ourselves, and our families and friends, but it is notoriously difficult to navigate and understand. As an industry that comprises 20% of the US economy we think healthcare should work better for all of us. At Collective Health we believe it’s time for a new day in healthcare where as members we are informed and empowered to make the right care choices when the decisions are urgent and critical.

The Analytics and Business Intelligence Team is a cross-collaborative team working with nearly all departments in the company. We are a creative, conscientious and data-driven group of actuaries, analysts and data scientists. We work together on larger projects, but also spend time driving our own analyses and working directly with internal partners.

Actuaries at Collective Health bring to bear their extensive background interpreting healthcare cost and utilization data to connect clients and internal leaders with powerful and data driven insights. In this role, the Senior Actuary will collaborate and partner closely with the Head Actuary, as well as serving as a mentor and working with junior actuaries.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare and interpret cost & utilization analyses for self funded plan sponsors & internal partners
  • Attend discussions with plan sponsors & consultants. Participate in discovery conversations exploring potential business partnerships
  • Design & improve actuarial models
  • Mentor & advise the work of more junior actuaries
  • Lead analytic efforts in cross-functional project workgroups
  • Use SQL and similar tools to manipulate and extract information from a healthcare data warehouse
  • Design approaches for measuring the impact of healthcare interventions & programs
  • Develop methodologies for and guide development of content for our suite of client reports

Your skills include:

  • 10+ years actuarial work experience in an insurer, consulting, digital health or similar healthcare-focused setting
  • Deep understanding of actuarial analyses & reporting in the context of employer-sponsored insurance, including but not limited to:
  • Premium equivalent rate development and self funded cost projection
  • RFP/marketing analyses (disruption, repricing, etc.)
  • IBNP estimation methods
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
  • Strong analytical, quantitative & technical skillset
  • Proven success presenting analytical results to non-technical audiences
  • Prior experience with value-based payment, alternative funding arrangements, or stop loss rate-making & reporting are all strong pluses
  • Proficiency with SQL and spreadsheet analysis. Familiarity with other programming languages (Python, R) a plus
