As part of achieving this goal, our Emerging Physician Leaders Fellowship is an opportunity to engage medical students who want to learn more about value-based care and have a desire to develop the critical skills necessary for future physician leaders. Students will work with different clinical leaders across the organization, have exposure to cross-functional leaders as they complete a research project, and be paired with a physician leader as a mentor throughout the program. At the culmination of the program, students will present their research to executive leadership with the potential opportunity to implement their research in one of our markets. 

How does the program work?

• The program dates are July 6 – August 14, 2020
• This will be a virtual fellowship program. We will provide the technology needed for you to work remotely
• In light of COVID-19 restrictions, there is the potential for travel to our markets if non-essential travel is permitted during this time
• You will have regular, coordinated touchpoints with your manager and peer research partner to ensure you have the guidance necessary to complete the research project
• You will also have coordinated interaction with your physician leader and virtual group learning sessions throughout the program
• Students will receive a stipend for their participation in the program

What opportunities will you have during the program?

• The chance to work on a unique and real-world research project that will give you exposure to our clinical model of care and challenge you to innovate as you think about alternative approaches to caring for our high-risk patient population
• Formal mentorship with physician leaders to learn about their journeys to leadership, understand the skills essential to being a physician leader, and explore the roles that physician leaders play in healthcare
• Partnership and collaboration with a peers and team members from technology, analytics, population health and care management as you learn about our clinical model and value-based care
• The potential to implement your research and pilot study in one of our markets!

What will make you successful in this program?

• A willingness to learn on your own and take initiative with very little direction
• Comfort working remotely and independently without supervision
• Capability to convey thoughts and express ideas effectively both verbally and in writing
• Strong research, analytical and presentation skills
• Comfort using technology and ability to learn the necessary systems
• The ability to be flexible in an ambiguous and dynamic environment

What are the requirements and application process?

• Actively enrolled in medical school, ideally after 1st year of school
• Prior business experience in consulting or healthcare administration
• Have an interest in value-based care and physician leadership
