Vail Systems Company Profile

The human voice is capable of conveying nuances and meaning that just can't be expressed through clicks and text messages. For that reason, voice interactions have always had a special power to shape our perceptions and experiences. At Vail, we believe in the unique power of voice interactions to create more expressive, more intimate, and more efficient interpersonal interactions. Our experts work with Fortune 500 companies to help them serve their customers more efficiently and effectively through the use of various voice technologies. From basic network services, to state-of-the-art IP telephony, to cutting edge real-time analytics, Vail technology makes millions of voice interactions better every day.

UI Developer Intern

Designed for speed, scalability and reliability, our voice technology is at the very center of the solutions we create, however, it's mostly invisible. That's why we take great care in surrounding our voice applications with elegant and intuitive web-based applications that enable our clients to achieve optimal benefits. Creating intuitively usable web applications is a multi-disciplinary process that requires instinct, creativity, empathy, and an eye for detail. We assemble collaborative teams made up of industry experts and neophytes applying principles of user-centered design, graphic art, and even cognitive psychology to ensure that we approach problems from every angle. We're looking to add a talented individual to our UX team, some one that:

  • Puts the user first when making development decisions
  • Is a creative and strategic thinker, able to develop innovative solutions to problems
  • Is very comfortable with technology, especially leading-edge technology
  • Recognizes that even uninformed opinions can inform the design process
  • Can turn unstructured feedback into actionable design modifications
  • Has excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Has an ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Has an eye for the smallest details
  • Enjoys teamwork and collaborative thinking
  • Is consistently positive and pleasant with a can-do attitude

What you can expect to be doing:

At Vail, you'll work as part of a team to develop the user interface of a web application, working with JavaScript frameworks like React. The project will require you to develop sophisticated functionality while keeping the user in mind and keeping an eye on aesthetics. You will also brainstorm, research, and develop reusable components for your own deliverables and team.

What we need to see from you:

  • Strong knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and modern JS Frameworks and React
  • Prior experience with User Interface and User-Centered design
  • Working toward a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent

Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience with SASS or LESS
  • Familiarity with OOCSS, SMACSS or BEM
  • Experience with basic graphic design principles and best practices
  • Experience with wireframing tools (e.g. OmniGraffle, Axure)
  • Experience with general design tools (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator)

If you believe that the user is the most important part of the user interface, if you can make the complex seem simple, if you're curious about technology that helps people communicate more freely and effectively, you want to be a part of our UX team.
