The Opportunity!
We are looking for an experienced and energetic Associate of Regulatory Compliance to join OppLoans’ expanding and dynamic Compliance Department. This role will report directly to the Director of Regulatory Compliance and the main responsibilities are:
- Assisting the Director of Regulatory Compliance in implementing our Compliance Management System and Compliance Risk Management Framework.
- Managing the company’s state licensing process, including applications and regular, ongoing reporting obligations and filings.
- Managing the company’s audit and examination process, including due diligence requests from third-party auditors and state regulatory examiners.
- Collecting requested data, communicating with regulators, and managing examinations from beginning to end.
- Demonstrate functional or proficient working knowledge of the prudential, financial crimes, and consumer lending regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act; USA Patriot Act; Equal Credit Opportunity Act; Truth In Lending Act; Fair Lending; Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices Act; Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and their implementing Regulations as well as other relevant regulatory requirements.
- Work in collaboration with Business Compliance Officers and other stakeholders in various phases of examinations and audits, including notification, fieldwork, escalation, reporting and follow-up.
- Demonstrate ability to exercise judgment in assessing the material significance and relevance of identified findings and recommendations and ensure timely escalation.
- Develop reports, which are concise, timely and provide value to business and management to continuously improve compliance controls and mitigate risks.
- Identify, track and communicate supervisory findings and make issue remediation recommendation, and work with responsible owners to address the items on a timely basis; ensure appropriate issue reporting and escalation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree required. CRCM certification and/or JD a plus. Paralegal certification also a plus.
- Relevant experience in regulatory compliance and state regulatory supervision and licensing, preferably in consumer finance or fintech company. Experience at a high-growth start-up is preferred.
- Experience managing regulatory exams and audits.
- Experience with the NMLS system.
- Strong knowledge of consumer financial regulations, including Truth in Lending Act and Regulation Z, Equal Credit Opportunity Act and Regulation B, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Unfair Deceptive and Abusive Acts or Practices, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act (Regulation E), Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN), NACHA Operating Rules and Guidelines
- Proficiency in root cause analytics
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Good organizational and follow-up skills
- Excellent problem resolution skills
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with an attention to detail
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to proactively identify issues
- Proven ability to build strong relationships, working with all levels with both internal and external customers and regulators
- Ability to work well individually, and in team structure
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and an enthusiasm for learning new areas of law.
