What you get to do:
We are looking for an experienced Compliance Associate - Risk and Controls to join OppLoans' expanding and dynamic Compliance Department. You will report directly to the Compliance Manager of Regulatory Compliance Risk Management and the main responsibilities are:
- Help develop an internal controls program to identify and prevent compliance risks which stem from all areas of business activities.
- Conduct compliance assessment walkthroughs ensuring all relevant documentation and work product is maintained.
- Help translate control deficiencies into action plans and provide consultation on the design of controls to enhance governance practices with risk and compliance frameworks.
- Draft procedures for control review.
- Perform ongoing oversight of controls.
- Identify all risks that stem from business activities.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of established business controls, enhance operational efficiencies, improve the associate experience, and support modernization of the compliance team.
- Create internal reports to support monitoring of risks and present reports to leadership.
- Be aware of relevant state and federal consumer laws and regulation changes, including changes to guidance and interpretations, and assist the team in making changes to plans accordingly.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor's degree along with 3+ years experience in regulatory compliance, with a focus on controls or risk assessments.
- Experience designing and implementing an internal controls program.
- Ability to identify processes, evaluate control design, develop control documentation, and provide oversight of documented controls.
- Experience defining frameworks and approaches for building risk and controls infrastructure.
- Understanding of financial controls
- Knowledge of consumer financial regulations (ie the Truth in Lending Act (Regulation Z), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Regulation B), Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Unfair Deceptive and Abusive Acts or Practices, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), Electronic Funds Transfer Act (Regulation E), Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN), and Privacy).
- Driven to go beyond the minimum requirements, not a “check-the-box” mentality
- Ability to thrive on ambiguous initiatives and lead them to a successful conclusion
What does success look like in this role: Success will be measured by your ability to assist in the development of an internal controls program, including identifying key risks and processes, determining existence of controls, evaluating control design, documenting controls, building control, and ongoing oversight of controls.

Who will you be reporting to: you will report to the Regulatory Compliance Manager of Regulatory Compliance Risk Management.
