We’re looking for a Legal Contracts Manager

We are looking for our first ever legal hire! We are seeking a contracts attorney (or manager) with a background in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial contracts (preferably with SaaS and/or online media/technology based businesses) to join our team.

To succeed, the role requires you to possess excellent business judgment, strategic outlook and critical thinking; ability to perform independently as well as cross-functionally and demonstrate flexibly in a collaborative, dynamic team environment; know how to prioritize and drive multiple initiatives to conclusion independently and in a timely manner; possess strong persuasion, negotiation and collaboration skills and excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills as well as be self-motivated, self-reliant, and confident.

Please Note: While we are open to this position being remote, we expect this individual to work in the Central (CST) timezone. 

How you’ll contribute

  • As the first ever legal hire for Built In, you will manage, run closing processes and drive the negotiations of all of our legal agreements with our customers (e.g., Terms of Sale, MSAs, customer order forms, etc.)
  • You will monitor the entire life of our contracts, from creation to signing, archiving and renewals
  • You will be able to interpret and address the contractual issues that come with selling Built In’s services to its customers
  • You will continuously update and support the improvement of standard form agreements and legal policies and processes
  • To accomplish the above, you will work closely with members of Built In’s Sales, Products, Revenue, and Finance teams
  • You will resolve customer order form and contract issues as well as work with outside counsel, as needed, on the negotiation of more complex MSAs and other legal contracts for the company
  • You will develop and provide continuous improvement of cross-team education and guardrails, playbooks, contract templates, and legal processes

What you need

  • 3 to 5+ years of experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in contract management handling the intake and negotiation of customer subscriptions, order forms and customer contracts, such as SaaS, MSA, media and/or enterprise software contracts
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience preferred 
  • Solid working knowledge of contracting practices with SaaS businesses with a focus on legal terms and conditions (e.g., copyright, licensing, intellectual property rights, acceptance, warranties, liabilities, indemnification, remedies)
  • Experience in addressing contractual issues in SaaS, data security, privacy, and intellectual property matters is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work through business issues as well as legal issues in a dynamic, ambitious environment with a proactive focus on risk management
  • Negotiation experience and a pragmatic, flexible negotiation style
  • Must be highly meticulous and organized with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to take the initiative, work independently, but also work on a daily basis with other members of the Built In team to prioritize and balance multiple tasks in our dynamic, evolving legal and technology environment
  • Experience designing and implementing workflow processes for a legal department
  • Experience managing detailed information (e.g., communications, documents, electronic files, etc.)
  • Experience supporting the continuous maintenance and improvement of forms, processes, and system
  • Excellent project management and record keeping skills
