Who We Are:

Smokeball is a leading case management software company for small law firms. As part of our software, we offer legal document automation services to our users. Legal templates automated by Smokeball include documents such as engagement agreements, letters, pleadings, cover sheets, and notices.

Smokeball’s document automation is currently done in-house; however, due to rapid growth we're initiating a 2-month automation outsourcing pilot program and we’re seeking law students to help with this pilot.

What We Need:

We’re looking for law students to turn our users' proprietary legal documents into automated templates. This will be done by inserting field codes which will allow the data from Smokeball to automatically populate in the users' documents. After the scheduled training period is complete, you will be able to automate the templates at your discretion. This is a remote position.

  1. Undergo training on how to use Smokeball.
  2. Undergo training on how to use Smokeball’s advanced document automation capabilities.
  3. Communicate with Smokeball employees regarding questions and status of work.
  4. Automate document templates by set deadlines in accordance with Smokeball’s best practices.
  5. Test your automated templates to ensure they work properly.
  6. Submit automated templates to Smokeball for Quality Assurance (QA)/review.
  7. Amend templates you automated as needed pursuant to QA/review feedback.

If you are interested in using your legal knowledge and experience in a non-traditional way from the comfort of your home, this is an excellent position for you!

What You Bring

  • Required
    • Bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school.
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Demonstrated experience editing and drafting Word documents.
    • A computer (Mac or PC) and an internet connection with a minimum upload and download speed of 5 Mbps.
    • Attention to detail in executing work.
    • Ability to take direction and handle assigned work independently with a high success rate.
  • Preferred
    • One (1) year of experience working in a law firm or other professional office setting.
    • Experience with case management software.

What We Offer:

This is a temporary, part-time contract position for the period of January 1, 2020 – February 29, 2020. We will pay you $15.00 per hour for a minimum of 20 hours of training ($300+). After training is complete, you will be paid $15.00 per page of automation that has been approved by Smokeball's QA team.

Although this is a two-month-long pilot project, we are willing to consider extending the program for a successful candidate, pending Smokeball and the candidate’s agreement to do so.
