The Director of SEO will refresh and direct Cars.com’s visibility in search to ensure that customers can readily access information and tools throughout their car-buying journey. This highly visible role will be responsible for expanding the overall reach of Cars.com’s brand, the results of which are measured through improvements in traffic, engagement, and revenue. This newly created position reports to our VP of Growth, but collaborates closely with all major functions, including Product, Engineering, Design, Content, Marketing, PR and Analytics to develop scalable platform, data and design requirements, content strategies, and SEO best practices in a lean agile environment.

The successful candidate will be a leader who feels ownership over their channel, wants to drive growth and make a major impact at a large recognizable brand in a highly competitive industry. We are looking for a business driver and leader, not just a successful channel specialist.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive the company’s site architecture, and work closely with the content, product, and engineering teams
  • Grow our SEO presence in the market and help consumers find the right automotive information for their needs
  • Derive Best Practices that will be applied across the company

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge in all things SEO; deep SEO experience
  • Experience at leading an enterprise e-commerce SEO function and teams
  • You will be a forward thinker, the expert for SEO Best Practices, and set the standard for our SEO operations
  • Executive presence and ability to go toe-to-toe with C-level leadership

Skills and Experience:

  • Big picture, long-term strategic thinker with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience leading SEO initiatives for large scale content site(s)
  • 3+ years’ experience coaching and developing teams, preferably in a Lean Agile environment
  • Technical SEO, keyword analysis
  • Experience working on sites with > 1M pages
  • Digital content structure: HTML, JavaScript, server side technology, content management systems
  • SEO on-page optimization
  • Link building strategies and guidelines
  • Demonstrated experienced increasing overall traffic and revenue directly through SEO initiatives
  • Comfortable with highly quantitative analysis
  • Experience working with crawl log files and initiatives focused toward crawl efficiency
  • A strong communicator and influencer who enjoys working across a diverse team of colleagues; capable of getting others excited about SEO initiatives
  • Highly networked and credible in the SEO community
