Senior Business Analyst - Marketing

| Chicago

Are you interested in playing a crucial role in this Fortune 1000's company ability to drive revenue and profit?

Groupon’s mission is to become the daily habit in local commerce and fulfill our purpose of building strong communities through thriving small businesses by connecting people to a vibrant, global marketplace for local services, experiences and goods. In the process, we’re positively impacting the lives of millions of customers and merchants globally. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. If you want to take more ownership of your career, then you're ready to be part of Groupon.

The primary mission of our Merchant Marketing team is to acquire, retain, and (re)engage local merchants. We achieve this mission by: providing solutions and resources that assist merchants in driving growth, offering consistent communications across all touchpoints, and being the voice of the merchant internally to optimize the experience throughout the lifecycle.

As a Senior Business Analyst on our Merchant Marketing team, you will serve as the primary expert on the health of Groupon’s merchant marketing efforts across the merchant lifecycle (lead acquisition, active merchant management, merchant retention, reacquisition). You'll spend your time measuring the success of our NA multichannel campaigns and website in driving new merchant acquisition, the efficiency of our internal processes in converting these leads into campaigns, and the resulting financial performance (ROI). Additionally, you'll be responsible for building out a program to measure in-depth email campaign performance in both lead acquisition and merchant lifecycle management efforts. You will make actionable recommendations for improvement at each level of the lead/sales funnel.

We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. We're curious, fun, a little intense, and kind of obsessed with helping local businesses thrive. Does that sound like a compelling place to work?

You’ll spend time on the following:

  • Synthesize raw data from multiple sources (e.g. Google Analytics, Salesforce.com, Tableau, EDW, Eloqua) to create comprehensive funnel/activity reporting; regularly disseminate to key stakeholders via easy-to-digest dashboard format

  • Make improvements on existing marketing dashboards and reports; establish process for sharing with senior management, Finance and other key partners

  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Business Intelligence, Email, and Finance teams to build comprehensive email campaign dashboard that tracks performance of campaigns as well as key merchant metrics at all stages of the funnel

  • Identify insights, track key performance indicators and suggest process improvements; partner with stakeholder groups to enact these recommendations

  • Partner with our Business Intelligence team to assess and sanity-check data to ensure integrity

  • Create standard queries and reports to respond to data requests from managers

  • Responsible for understanding, measuring, testing and reporting the drivers of marketing success

  • Partner with business leaders, engineers, data scientists and product managers to build marketing analysis tools, validate data and frame the discussion for senior management

  • Work with Global Operations team to ensure data is collected consistently for all countries/markets, as needed

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Business Information Systems or related fields

  • 4-5+ years relevant professional experience in analytically/quantitatively rigorous roles

  • You have a passion for developing a deep understanding of data sources

  • You have experience performing exploratory and complex analyses on large datasets to extract important business insights and deliver strategy recommendations

  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills, exemplified by an ability to effectively convey complex concepts to partners at all organizational levels

  • Experience with Salesforce.com or other similar reporting platforms required

  • Advanced SQL (Teradata SQL experience preferred) and strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel, required

  • You have experience with Google Analytics, Tableau, MicroStrategy, or other business intelligence and data visualization tools

  • You have experience with large-scale data analysis and statistical analysis tools (R, Python Pandas, etc.) a plus

  • You have exceptional independent problem-solving skills and willingness to actively seek out information

  • Creativity and the ability to bring together multiple data sources and develop analytical solutions, even with imperfect data
